Don't go to the other side. That's what my father used to say, until my mother died; then he crossed to the other side of the white door. Dust swirled across the road, the shops empty due to the Gorgi holiday, it was the only time they let me out. Alzo stood infront of the barber shop, his beautiful silver eyes stayed the same from when we were young children, since before my mother died.
His father stood beside Alzo, their eyes the same except blood covered the father's face making it seem like a blank page of red. Alzo flicked his hand up; like when we were children to have me join in on the chocolate search. Blood dripped onto the floor. Sparks ran down my spine as Alzo walked towards me. I am their property. No one elses. Alzo's black suite looked fine on him, there was slight dust on the shoulders that were wiped away by his chocolate brown hair. His silver eyes like the coins I never used
"Hello Nygera" Alzo stopped infront of me, eyes full of kindness. His father blocked my exit and man exited from the store. He glowed like my father. "Its nice to see you again" Alzo smiled, he brushed my white hair behind my ear, skin burning where he touched. I was their property. "You don't belong to them, remember"
I did. I remembered the old willow tree where we were married on our thirteenth birthday. I remember the sweets he gave me to celebrate our union. "By law... You are mine." Alzo cupped my face, fire crackled in my stomach cooking me, burning me from the inside. Did my special blood come? Alzo's lips were a soft brown from his caramel skin, the fire tried to kill the butterflies that flew in my chest.
The man was yelling something about breaking their hold. Alzo's arms around my waiste creating a wall between me and the world, he pulled me closer to him lips close. He tasted like chocolate, lips were warm and soft against mine, eyes closed. The wind flushed across the road, my hair tickling my neck. I was no longer theirs but Alzo's. I followed his lips as he pulled away desperately trying to feel his warmth, his protection, him. He held me close to him lips on my forehead and the man walked to us, his smile warm.
"Now missy" the man tilted his hat in a mocking gesture. "You can never go back there, or you'll be theirs again." His light glowed brighter as he walked down the road, his brown coat helping him disappear into the dust. Alzos coat was soft against my face, their claws no longer in my skin but my soul.
"I've missed you" Alzo smiled against my forehead, he missed me too. It hurt to speak. I was free, I was with Alzo, and I'm independent from the monsters that held me hostage.
