Apocalypse [ROTBTFD]

A pile up of cars forces me to stop the car. I crane my head over to see whats happening. I can hear groans of pain and faint screams. 

"What is going on?" I whisper to myself and get out of my car. I watch as a man tears out a woman's throat before turning his gaze to me. His eyes have rolled back into his head and are shot through with red. I scream and pile back into my car and reveres as fast as I can. Then they are all around me, pushing the car, making it roll into a ditch, everything swims before me, someones arms pulling me out roughly then everything goes black.

My eyelids are heavy and dull thud brings awareness to the pain in my side. 

"Your lucky you haven't been bitten" A voice says. I turn my head to see that we are in a forest, surrounded by a wall of trees it seems, the trunks pressing so closely together to create a wall and the branches so thickly packed over the top only shafts of sunlight gets through. A small redheaded girl sits next to me, she wears dark jeans and an oversized green hoodie, a curly mass of red hair tied into a messy side braid. 

"W- Who are you" I manage to choke out, I push myself to a sitting position, wincing at the pain. 

"Merida, And who are you lass?" She says, she seems kind and willing to help me, someone I could trust. 

"Rapunzel, but you can call me Rap, do yo know whats happening?" I ask her, she sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose. 

"The world has gone to shit, a disease has take over the world, if you get bitten you get turned" She explains. 

"Those things back on the road, they'll be coming for us, here have an axe" She passes me a hatchet, I grip it. Maybe I won't die... just yet. 

"What happened, did you pull me out of the wreckage?" I ask her. She stands before answering, she's small, shorter than me, surely she couldn't have pulled me out?

"Yea, just in time to, I had to slice a couple, I wrapped your side for you and picked out the glass you have stitches, poorly done but they'll work so don't rip them , we should get moving" She says and picks up a long sturdy looking stick.

"You'll need this, I can carry you some of the time but not all the time" I nod and she pulls me up, I lean my weight against the stick and take a step forward, my side throbs so I lean more on the stick and the pain disappears. 

"Why do we have to go now?" I ask, glancing around. We were safe enough, There was only one gap, big enough to get through, once we barricaded it, it would hold out all of the monsters. 

"Heards, they'll swarm us and we'll be stuck here for the rest of our lives with no food, then we'll die, we need to find a safe house, and soon" She says. She has a pistol hanging at her waist and a knife sheathed in her boot. I zip up my jacket and shove the hatchet into the waist band of my shorts. We walk through the forest for what seems eternity until we come across a river, the flow is strong and I doubt even Merida could swim across who has proven to be strong.
