Chapter 8: Christmas Lights

Jennie POV

"I don't understand." I look down to my hands and then looked up to the sky. It was dark, but the stars twinkled. I sat alone in a bench around our neighborhood. "Maybe, just maybe, can I talk to him at this hour?" I didn't know what had gotten to me. The feeling was horrible, and I wanted to fulfill it. "What am I missing?" I questioned myself. As the times when he would smile at me and when he held my hand and sat quietly for hours flashed back. I checked my phone and it was 11:23 pm. I opened my contacts and saw Taehyung's. I hesitated to call. I turn off my phone and stood up. I walk alone not knowing where to go, but I didn't care. The rain started pouring and the memories of him came through my head.

Taehyung POV

The contact of my ex-girlfriend appeared at my screen. I wanted to call her. She still remained in my heart, but she wasn't the reason why I still wake up every morning. She isn't the one who makes me happy from now on. If it's not her, then who is she? The girl who I smile for, and the girl who smiles for me. Is it Jennie?

Jennie POV
I silently walk home as my damp clothes and wet shoes made noise. The grab my keys and unlocked the door. I creeped into my room and took a shower. I changed my clothes with fresh new ones and jumped into my bed quickly. I hug the pillow next to me and drifted to sleep.

Third Person POV

The next morning, both at the same time, Jennie and Taehyung opened their eyes, and the sunlight greeted them. Both of them had each other on their minds, despite weeks of not seeing each other. While Jennie is hesitant to call, Taehyung still can't believe that a girl whose just as lovely and warm as Jennie was the one for him. At least he believed that she was. Jennie worried that if people from her university knew that she is dating Taehyung, no one will accept it, but she'd let it pass because what mattered to her is when will she go back to Taehyung's arms. As months passed by, it was already winter. Taehyung was on his way home from the hospital, and just as when he looked at his palm, a drop of snow fell on it. He rushed home as the cold temperature took over him. Yet after what happened that day, everything seemed to remind him of Jennie. On the other side, Jennie was giggling at the children who are playing around the neighborhood, catching every drop of snow they can. Maybe it was their first time, she thought. Her smile slowly faded, since it also reminded her of Taehyung. Until it was Christmas Day, the night of the 25th. Jennie was on her way he from school, and she was overly excited. She knew her mother invited Taehyung's family, since Lisa was coming also. She quickly took of her boots and opened the door. Small Christmas lights made the atmosphere almost romantic, and the red carpet that was placed a Christmas Tree on was filled with gifts, as Lisa, who arrived there before Jennie, approached her and gave her a big hug. Jennie's eyes filled with tears of joy. She slightly opens her eyes then there was Taehyung, smiling with his reindeer sweater that matched with his brown chestnut hair. Lisa let go of Jennie and she went to the dining table with the rest of the family who were invited. Then, Taehyung and Jennie were left in the living room. Jennie wiped her tears off and she gave Taehyung a hug. It came unexpected, since Taehyung was about to leave to go to the table, he was surprised that her arms were wrapped suddenly around him. He paused, then hugged her back, with his fingers in her hair. He felt water on his chest, but he didn't care. He tried to control his tears, because he also felt the way Jennie did. The hug took longer than Jennie expected, she felt that eyes were staring so she let go. She passes by Taehyung, ignoring what had happened. She later greets her parents and the rest of the guests. She and Taehyung shared eye contact through the night, when they were eating and spending time with the family. It was the portion of the night where they were going to share gifts. Jennie thought of giving her sister, Lisa and Taehyung a gift. She looked around for gifts and she saw a 12 inch bear. She thought that the teddy bear looked like Taehyung, and decided that it would be her gift. She remained secretive about whom Taehyung's gift was from, but it was still passed to him. An unexpected gift was given to her that had no sender. She and Lisa had exchanged but she received another gift. Which was unusual for her. It was 1 am and people where leaving already. Jennie waved goodbye at Lisa, and Taehyung who was about to go out, stood beside Jennie and looked at her. Jennie looked back at his eyes and Taehyung's hand caressed Jennie's cheek. She looked deeply into Taehyung's eyes, nose and then his lips. She then places her hand on his shoulder and slowly, they both close their eyes and leaned closer. Jennie's lips were met by Taehyung's. Even if she couldn't see anything, she felt Taehyung's lips that were soft and his warm hand that remained on her cheek. Taehyung lets go and Jennie opens her eyes, she thought it was only just a dream, but it wasn't. Then, Taehyung holds both of Jennie's hands. "I love you." He confessed, this time, Jennie didn't hesitate. "I love you too." She too confessed. A sigh of relief come from Taehyung. Then he smiles and kisses her forehead, "I'll be going now." He promises her that even if he'll be going, he'll be by her side. Jennie waves goodbye, then just as when she turns around, she sees her parents with their jaws dropped.
