Chapter Four
“Daddy, I want a Porche.” Holly pinned her hair up in a bun and picked up her straightener. She was partially dressed standing in front of her mirror, with her cell phone between her ear and shoulder.
“Yes, that’s what I want. Their only like what? 105,000?”
She took the bun out and straightened the rest of her hair. She glanced at the clock. 6:53 pm.
“Okay Daddy. I gotta go. I’m gonna be late for the party. Yes. Love you too. Yes! I’ll be home before dawn. I promise. Bye.” she hung up the phone and finished caking her makeup on.
She looked perfect. Her soft brown hair cascaded down her shoulders and back. The pink party dress was thigh high and had sequins lining the sides with a big black bow under the bust. Her black pump heels had tiny pink bows on the front. She looked absolutely gorgeous, and she knew it.
“Mom. I’m gonna go ahead and walk to Jennifer’s house. The party started at 6:30.” She glanced at herself once more before she grabbed her pocket book and closed her bedroom door behind her.
“You’re already late honey.” Her mother stood by the door with grey hair and a plastic face. The years of having to put up with her only needy child was evident.
“Everyone knows its cool to be fashionably late” she pushed past her mom and opened the door.
The coldness of night crept up her dress as chill bumps formed on her legs.
“Bye Mom.” she said faintly while looking at herself in a small pocket mirror.
“Bye honey. Be careful” her mother closed the door behind her and watched her walk down the sidewalk through the cold window pane.
Ah.. there she is. I thought she’d never come. He thought as he watched the pretty girl exit her house and begin walking down the sidewalk. The party was raging a few blocks down. The music was blasting, with bass thumping the air around his face. He had to hurry before she got too close.
He crouched and crossed the street in between the light of the lamp posts. She walked briskly, but he kept pace with her.
She turned around slightly. He jumped behind some hedges and rolled on his side. The sound of heels started again.
Too close.
Ugh.. my makeup is gonna run. She thought as she tried to hurry herself. She heard something behind her and turned around. Nothing.
Her phone vibrated and the song ‘Never Say Never’ started to play. She slowed to a stop as she dug in her pocketbook for her phone. She found it and answered it, fumbling it in her hands.
“Hello?”
“Why.. Hello Holly”
“Who is this.. the number is blocked”
“Don’t worry about it darling...”
“Why?! Who is this? Your scaring me” She started to pace nervously and leaned up against the fence on her right side.
“This is your worst nightmare bitch-click” the phone hung up and she stood there holding her phone to her ear in utter horror. She turned around quickly and fell to the concrete. Her heel broke off. She started to cry, her makeup streaming down her face and looked at her skinned, bloody knees.
He shoved his cell phone in his pocket and watched the pretty girl fall to the ground. Perfect. He smiled to himself and crept from the bushes. The pretty girl almost fell trying to take her shoes off. He walked up to her briskly looking down at her panicking body. She looked up at him incredulously.
