The bus rounded the corner and Amelia woke to a squeaky window in her ear. She rubbed her eyes and looked out of the dirty window. The trees flitted by as they always did and she drifted back to her thoughts.

She saw Cody standing in a white field. He was smiling and gesturing her to come to him. Amelia walked towards him and black enveloped him… he was screaming and she started to run towards him. He disappeared and she was left on her knees in a pool of cold blood. “Amelia… Amelia…” his voice got louder. “Amelia!”

Her eyes opened and she was breathing hard. Her hands were clasped to her book bag. Cody was sitting next to her.

“Amelia? Are you okay?” he looked at her with big eyes and wondered what she drempt about.

“I’m fine, I just had a bad dream.” she looked out of the window again as they passed her house once more. The woods were dark this early in the morning and white looked like strings decorated the naked trees. A red figure stood behind the trees; very vaguely could Amelia see the figure.

That must be another ghost… she thought as her and the figure grew apart with distance. “Cody, I had a dream that you left and blood was everywhere” she looked him dead in the face with a blank expression.

She couldn’t have been there… I made sure no one was there… she must have watched a scary movie or something… Cody looked at her and smiled.

“I’m right here Amelia, and I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” he grabbed her hand and held it tight.

She looked down at his hand and saw a big cut on the back of his hand.

“How did you do that Cody?” she rubbed it and looked up at him. The bus stopped in the middle of the road. Sirens were blaring and lights were flashing bright. Cody instantly stood up and walked to the front of the bus to see what was going on.

An ambulance and five or six cop cars surrounded a mound of naked bloody girl. She was laying face down on the pavement with a puddle of blood surrounding her whole body.

Cody walked calmly back to his seat with Amelia and told her she didn’t need to see what was out there. The whole bus was buzzing with conclusions and tears. It was Holly’s body laying there. Holly Carpenter was dead and everyone knew it. Cody held Amelia as she cried. Though Amelia didn’t favor Holly she still didn’t want her to die. She wasn’t that kind of person.

I can’t believe I let this happen. I should’ve tied her to a tree or something. How the fuck did she get all the way to the road? Cody thought a million things a minute. His heart was beating hard as Amelia’s tears wet his shirt.

The sirens made a symphony in Cody’s head. He just held Amelia and listened to it flow as the image of Holly came back to his head; the whole bloody night. It lingered and the sirens never stopped.
