I knock on Snow's apartment door. David answers it.
"What do you want?" he asks.
"Well, that's not the way to speak to your step-mother-in-law on her birthday!" I act offended, "I need to speak to Snow."
"She's at Granny's with Emma." he tells me.
"Without you?"
"Mother-Daughter time." he answers.
I don't respond. I just turn around and leave. I hear the door shut behind me. I debate on whether I really need to talk to Snow. Eh, it'll give me something to do.
I walk into Granny's. I found Snow and Emma sitting at a table in the middle of the diner. I walk over to them. They immediately look up at me.
"Snow, can I talk to you?" I glance over at Emma, "...alone." Emma sighs, gets up, and walks over and sits down a couple tables over. I take her seat.
"What's on your mind?" Snow asks, concerned.
"Do you remember when I had just married your father and two months later I tried to run away?" I ask her. She nodded. "Do you know why I did?"
"I have a feeling it's not the reason I was told..." she says, skeptically. I shake my head.
"I was running with someone." I say quietly.
She wide-eyed asks "Who?" getting the hint to keep her voice down low.
"That doesn't matter right now. Continuing... After I was brought back, I heard he was killed in the woods."
"So, why are you telling me this?" she asks.
"Because that explosion today, I think he was with them."
"...But he's dead." she says.
"That's what I thought, but-" I was cut off by Snow's cool hand on my forehead.
"Regina, you're burning up. Go home. Get some rest." She says.
"You think I'm crazy, don't you?" I ask.
"No. It's just-" the bells above the door jingled. I turned around and saw him. Robin. He's alive. He's really alive. Living, breathing, alive.
"Turn around!" I whisper harshly. I put my dark sunglasses on, and pop my jacket collar up.
"What? Is that... him?" She asks.
"Act natural!" I say, slouching in my chair.
Snow finally listened and pretended to make conversation with me, until Robin walked past us and up to, I guess, his room. When he was out of sight, I sat back up and took my sunglasses off.
"Regina Mills! I want an explanation!" Snow exclaims.
"He's my true love!" I say. I saw Emma turn around and look back at me. Was that too loud?
"But, Daniel..."
"Daniel wasn't my true love, Robin is!"
"So why don't you go talk to him?" she says.
"What if he doesn't love me anymore? In case you haven't noticed, I'm the Evil Queen! No one can love someone like me..."
"Regina, if this helps, you still have a place in my heart. I'm sure, this Robin guy still has one for you in his heart too."
"I still love him." I whisper.
"What?" She exclaims.
"I still love him. He loved Regina, what if he won't love the Evil Queen?" I ask.
"You can't think like that. Go home, get some rest, come talk to him tomorrow." She says.
"Alright." I say.
"Did you want to stay and have lunch with Emma and me?" she asks.
"Thanks, but I should go home and clear my head." I say.
"Alright. Good luck. Maybe I'll come check up on you later." She says. I nod my head and head towards the door. I give Granny a sarcastic smile and wave when I saw she was giving me a look. I go out the door and start my way down the sidewalk.
"Regina?" someone calls behind me. Oh the familiarity of the voice.
I turn around to see Robin running towards me. It's already surprise enough that he's alive, now he's found me.
He grabbed me in a huge hug when he reached me seconds later.
"Robin." I say, tears stinging my eyes. I blink them back so he can't see them.
"I saw you walking away from my window and had to see you. You're alive," he whispers, "I thought you were dead."
He what?
He what!
"No, I thought you were dead." I say, my heart pounding.
We exchange confused looks.
"What happened after I told you to run?" I ask him.
"I got far into the woods, climbed a tree, and stayed there until I was certain they had stopped looking. I went to a different kingdom for two months and when I came back, I heard you were executed for shaming the royal family."
Wow. It seems like we were both lied to.
"How about you? what did they do after they found you?" he asks.
"I was taken back to the palace, locked in my room until they said you were killed." I say.
"Maybe they were just saying those things so we would stop looking for each other." He concludes.
"I suppose so," I say, "looks like we are both equally surprised."
He seems like he still cares for me, but I better wait until I'm sure.
"Did you want lunch?" he asks looking back at Granny's.
"I actually need to get home. I have a crazy amount of paperwork to do. But I'll see you soon?" I ask.
"Um... yes I suppose so." he says with a confused look. I turn around and walk home.
I hold back tears with every painful step I take. I want to love him again, but I don't want him to see my dark side. I've killed so many, I've done so much damage, all because I lost love. Now it's knocking at my door but I'm ignoring it. If I let Robin in again, he will see my dark heart and leave. I'll be heartbroken. This will be easier.
