a surprise party.
that's what hari decided on doing
for jacob's birthday.
all of his friends were at his house, including me. he wasn't home yet.
we were hiding behind many different items,
balloons were all over the house,
cake was sat on the kitchen counter,
and confetti was along the ground.
jacob stated earlier that day his dad was on a business trip in new york,
so he wouldn't be home.
i comforted him earlier
even when he said it didn't matter to him,
"i'm so sorry baby."
"it doesn't matter to me,
he does this all the time."
"jay, it's your seventeenth birthday,
of course it matters."
"i don't care."
he seemed rather upset earlier,
so i hoped this party would cheer him up.
him and i had been dating three months by then and i truly felt i loved him, but i hadn't said it yet.
hari bargained a random senior
for a few grams of marijuana.
which seemed crazy to me,
but it was a party after all.
when we all heard the door being unlocked we went silent and waited for jacob to enter through the door.
once he did, we all jumped up and yelled,
"surprise!"
we all ran towards him,
other people continued blowing party kazoos and throwing confetti into the air.
i hugged him tightly, as did the others while he thanked all of us repeatedly.
"thank you guys so much." he said with his eyes filling up with tears. "i love you all."
