The cold air enveloped me as I walked to my apartment. I pulled my coat tightly into my body, sealing off the freezing air. Small patches of snow covered the street, signaling the coming of winter soon. The sounds of the busy city filled the air around me. The dark streets were illuminated by the street lamps above.
I kept walking, but with each step, my apartment seemed further and further away.
I should have just gone with Charlie, I thought to myself. But, no. I didn't want to give him any false hope anymore. I only saw him as a friend and I knew he wanted more than that. And now that I knew that Jack was alive, Charlie occupied no place on my mind. All I thought about was Jack. I just wanted to see him again. I wanted to see him, embrace him, and. Ever let him go.
But then I thought about what Charlie had said about Jack. Had he really moved on? I mean, why wouldn't he. He had every right to do so. It had been three years since everything that happened on the Titanic. Maybe to him it was a simple adventure.
I kept thinking about that and the more I thought about it, I started to believe it. My thoughts were slowly consuming me. It was just a fleeting adventure to him. It was probably all a game to him. Trying to get a vulnerable rich girl to fall for him. It all felt so real though. How could it not be?
And how did he even survive? When we were out in the ocean, I could have sworn he had died. I had even let him go into the deep blue waters. I guess that's something I will never know, I thought to myself.
Small snowflakes began falling softly onto the ground. I extended my arm out and let the cold flakes land. I looked down at my black high heels and decided that it was better to catch a cab home. I looked around but did not see any cabs in the area.
I continued walking down the street when a cab turned a corner and drove in my direction. I stood at the edge of the sidewalk, waving my arms to get the driver's attention. The driver pulled up next to my left side. I opened the right back seat door and saw a man sitting next to the other door. He was looking out the window intently.
"Good evening miss," the cab driver spoke from the front seat, "would you mind riding with another passenger? He was supposed to be my last passenger for the night, but I saw you all alone and decided to pick you up as well. "
"That's all right," I answered. "I don't mind at all."
I got into the back seat and wrapped my coat around myself again. The man next to me took his eyes off from the window and quickly glanced at me.
I gasped.
"Jack?!"
