The following school week went by as usual. The boys would all meet in the morning, go to school, and hang out somewhere after. Sometimes they would go to the The Tree or maybe to someone's house. Maxx was the first to get to the morning meeting place. In fact, he was positive that the others weren't even awake yet.
All of them seemed to lose interest in getting to school on time. Halfway through the year, they seemed to meet later and later in the school day. How edgy of them. Well, that was until Zach's mom gave them a whole lecture on how they were missing quality lessons. So they met earlier from them on out. Sometimes.
Maxx leaned on a nearby pole and looked at himself in the reflection of his phone. He was wearing a white button up shirt that had small sharks plastered all over it. Along with the shirt, he had on black pants and vans. A simple fit that was unusual to his daily all black.
A small car pulled up infront of him, rolling down the driver's side window. The driver was a bleach blond with all smiles that Maxx recognized all too well. He walked up to the car and leaned into the open window.
"Hey Patty, what's up?"
"Sup dude," he smiled, "okay I'm throwing a party this weekend. You and the boys should all come over, it's gonna be so much fun. Would be a whole lot better with y'all there!"
"Oh fuck yea, just text me the details and we'll be there!"
Cody walked up with Dan and rested his hand on Maxx's hip. Maxx waved to Patty before he drove off toward school. Dan and Cody looked at Maxx quizzically and Cody asked," where exactly will we be this weekend?"
"Oh, Patty invited us all to a party at his place this weekend. It's gonna be a banger."
"A banger," Dan laughed," what age are you living in, dude?"
"The world may never know."
The three (3) all laughed and proceeded with more small talk, waiting for Zach to show up. Cody's arm was still loosely around Maxx's waist. Dan was telling them about his new dog Zelda and how much he adored spending time with her.
Maxx's interest peaked, "Is she cat friendly?"
"Well, I'm not sure yet because she hasn't been around that many other animals.."
"WE CAN HAVE A PLAY DATE WITH THEM IT WILL BE SO MUCH FUN PLEASE?!"
"Jesus, don't break the sound barrier next time! Of course they can get together and play, hm I'm saying my house Sunday?"
"YES!! I'm so excited Pistol hasn't been around a puppy before!"
As the two (2) were making the plans, Zach strolled up with a coffee in hand.
"What's up, heteros?"
"Well," Cody pointed out, "the only hetero ones here are you and Dan."
"You got me there, Carson."
All four (4) chuckled and got ready to head to school. It was almost lunch hour so they only missed about 2-3 classes. They were all working on the getting to school on time thing.

The walk to school wasn't long at all, it was just around five (5) minutes. But, by the time they arrived the bell to start lunch had just rang and everyone was scurrying around the halls. Maxx and Cody walked with their hands intertwined and Zach and Dan on either side of them.
Those two were practically their parents while at school. If anyone made snide remarks about the two (2) being together, then Zach and Dan would get on their case. The friendship between the four (4) boys was unbreakable. They all defended one another no matter what. It was almost like a secret pact that no one, not even them, knew about.
Plopping down at their usual picnic table, they started talking about the weekend plans. Dan pulled out a notebook to chart everything out. He grabbed a pen and started mapping it all on the college ruled paper.
"Okay, so we have Patty's party Friday night, usual meet up at Mel's Diner Saturday, and me and Maxx have the animal play day at my place Sunday. Does that all sound about right?"
The rest all nodded in agreement. Cody smiled and rested his head on Maxx's shoulder. Little did they know, something bigger would happen at Patty's party that would shake up all their plans. And the blame was pinned right on one of them.
