"At last, Len, you're here," a woman with pitch black hair and blue eyes smiled at the man on the front steps through a slightly open door.
The young man with the briefcase nodded as he stepped into the home. It was small and cramped and really quite smelly.
"You need to clean this place up," Len wrinkled his nose as he threw the briefcase onto a sofa. The woman led him to the kitchen.
"It's not really ours," she said, opening a cupboard and pulling out two mugs, "You know that."
Len sat down on the counter, watching the woman as she opened the refrigerator. He had his palms pressed against the black marble, and he swung his legs back and forth, almost like a child.
"We saved some for you," the woman pulled a large, half-eaten cake out of the fridge. Len's eyes widened at the sight of it.
"Is that banana flavoured?" Len's voice was a whisper.
The woman nodded and handed him a knife and fork. "Help yourself!"
Len nodded quickly and began butchering the cake. He gobbled up half of the leftovers in a matter of minutes, and the woman stood in one corner, watching him with a smile.
"That was amazing," Len sighed, jumping off of the counter and washing his face at the kitchen sink. He felt two arms drape over his neck.
"I made it myself," the woman smiled, hugging Len.
Len grinned, spinning around and giving the woman a kiss. "I don't need to tell you that you're amazing, Sarah."
"Can't hurt, right?" Sarah smiled, running a hand through Len's hair. He had his arms around her waist, "How was the job? A couple of officers from Crypton will be here in a few hours to pick up the briefcase."
"If I had gone after it myself, it would've been a waste of both time and energy," Len replied, "Time and energy that I'd rather spend with you."
Sarah giggled. "Did you make a mess?"
Len looked at her innocently, "A little, I guess."
"Well, it's fine. The mission said that the clean up crew would drop by, so it's no issue, right?"
Len nodded. "Can we stop talking about all this?"
"What's on your mind, Len?"
"I'm kind of hungry," Len said.
"But you just ate all that cake!"
"Let's go to a restaurant," Len continued, kissing Sarah on the nose, "It'll be fun."
Sarah nodded. "I can't really say no to you, now can I?"
"But my phone can," Len grumbled as the beeping of his phone filled the air around them, "It's Crypton."
An organization in the shadows, lurking behind every criminal and potential threat, Crypton was the kennel that held back dogs and beasts such as Len and Sarah, sending them off on missions and jobs in order to help preserve the peace in their interests. They hired and worked only with the best, in order to preserve their success rate and minimize the chances of failure.
"Agent Len Kagamine," a woman's voice on the other end said, "You've returned with the target, yes?"
"Yeah," Len nodded and glanced at Sarah, "I've brought it to the apartment."
"Excellent. We have another job for you."
"What?" Len's voice rose, "But I just..."
"This is urgent. We have located the Cause of Failure."
Len bit his lip. There had only been one major operations failure in the history of Crypton, and it involved the death of Len's closest friend, which made it even more personal. The 'Cause of Failure' was the code name given to the one who had killed Len's friend, and Crypton had been vigilantly hunting him down. There was a long history of false leads, but whenever one came up, Len's ears had always perked up.
Because I'm going to kill him.
