Chapter Two

When we reached school the grounds, as usual, were crowded. Everyone was socialising with each other all over the place. I parked the car in my usual parking spot. As soon as I had cut the engine, Demetri practically jumped out of the car to go meet his delinquent friends. I looked at Cassidy through the corner of my eyes to see that she was staring at him with pink tinted cheeks. She sighed hopelessly.

"Ew, you like Dem?" I asked, the disgust in my voice was evident. She quickly jumped out of her trance and her cheeks flushed.

"What? No-what-why-no," she mumbled all at once. I smirked at her.

"Weeeeeelllll. . ."

"Ew."

"What?  Okay...yeah, I get why you're creeped out, but seriously, in this hell hole, he is actually the only one guy that is super-hot and super nice and he totally gets me," she said smiling ridiculously. In all honest, she could do a lot worse and in a way it was kind of cute.

"Wait. . . If Dem is hot, and he is my twin, then that must mean I am hot too right?" I asked her, a smirk made its way on to my face.  She rolled her eyes.

"Yes, Ella, that makes you hot," she said sarcastically. I grinned at her. She giggled and checked in the mirror whether or not she looked okay, I mirrored her actions and then we exited the car. We walked towards our group of friends while I pressed the automatic lock button on my key to lock the car.

"I'm majorly pooping the algebra test that we have this morning," Darren said as we approached them. Everyone mumbled in agreement.

"I'm not," I muttered.

"Yeah, well you're not normal," Lana said smirking at me. I stuck my tongue out her playfully.

"Oh. My. God." Cassidy shouted at Lana, while she grinned at us.

"You did it! You actually did it!" Cassidy continued to shout in utter shock. I didn't understand what she meant so I turned myself to observe Lana. I saw that the ends of her hair had turned pink and purple.

"Your mom let you?!" I asked in awe.  She looked at me as if I was stupid.

"Hell no, but I did it anyway, she can't really do anything about it now," she said shrugging her shoulders. Everyone laughed. Our friend group, or click or whatever you like to call it, consisted of eight people. Myself, Cassidy, Lana, Anjali, Rahul, Danny, Luke and Tom. Within the group, Cass and I were closer with each other, Anjali and Lana were closer with each other, and the guys were closer with each other.

“Angie, Ma said to go to Auntie Rita’s after school, she’s going out somewhere and doesn’t want us to stay home alone,” Rahul said. Rahul and Anjali were twins and it was really funny hearing about their family life. It was just about as crazy as mine. Anjali groaned and mumbled something about nine annoying cousins. The conversation came to an end when the bell rang overhead for homeroom. Everyone muttered a see you later and went their own ways. Cassidy and I shared the same homeroom so we began walking together.

“Do you want to go to the movies tomorrow?” Cassidy asked.

“Can’t, I have work,” I said apologetically.

“You don’t even need a job! You have that bloody trust fund of yours!” Cassidy said for the umpteenth time.

“I mean, your job isn’t even fun! You don’t enjoy it or anything!” She continued, I just rolled my eyes at her.

“Sure I enjoy it, I mean when isn’t my job fun?! Cleaning is always fun!” I said sarcastically. She stared at me doubtfully. I laughed at her expression.

“Look, it pays, that means I don’t have to enjoy it ‘kay?” I said. She rolled her eyes.

“Whatever,” She muttered.

“Anyhoo, when are you dying your hair?” I said, trying to change the conversation. She raised her eyebrows at me, but her eyes lit up.

“I don’t know, now that Lana has done it. I really really want to get mine done,” She looked down at her golden hair.

“I think blonde suits you,” I said honestly. She scoffed.

“Urgh, I don’t think so! I mean, everyone is so stereotypical like ‘oh she’s a blonde, she must be dumb’ like seriously, no! I take five AP classes douches.”

“I’m sure it’s not that bad,”

“Easy for you to say, you’ve got that whole nerd thing going on, with the brown hair, big nerd glasses. No-one questions why all your classes are AP.”

“They’re not all AP,” I muttered.

“Physical Ed doesn’t have an AP,”

“Oh,”

“Yeah,”

We had reached homeroom and we sat in our seats talking about the algebra test that was coming up.

The morning had passed slowly, much too slowly. The test was okay, just as I thought it would be. My stomach growled as I walked towards the cafeteria. I grabbed a red tray and made my way to the food counter.

“Making a trip to the bathroom after? You know, to puke it all out?” I heard a voice behind me say. The voice was laced with hatred and laughter. It pierced right through me. It took all I had not to break out crying. Before even turning around, I knew who the voice belonged to.

“Carla, what is your problem?” I asked, exhausted with all the comments she had ever made about me. Some heads turned to face us I the cafeteria.

“Problem? Me? Oh no, honey, remember you’re the one with the problem,” she sneered. I shook my head at her, tears building up.

“Seriously?” I asked. She just laughed in my face before turning on her heel to walk way. The tears in my eyes were threatening to spill. I took a deep breath before walking to my usual table.

The rest of lunch passed uneventfully. Just the normal banter and chats going around. The group knew what Carla had said but as always they avoided it, and I was grateful for that, I hated attention and was happy to steer away it at all costs.

“Ella!” I heard my twin call from behind me. I swivelled in my seat to come face to face with the deep brown haired boy. Looking into his deep emerald coloured eyes I could tell that he knew what Carla had done. Internally, I groaned.

“Dem, I’ll talk to you at home ‘Kay?”

“But-“

“But nothing! I’ll catch you at home,” I said and with that he gave me a small nod.

“At home then,” he said. Stupid, over protective two minute older brother of mine. I rolled my eyes as he walked away. I could see that bitch troll Carla sniggering through the corner of my eyes.  I clenched my fists and counted to a hundred in my head. Sometimes, the trips to the therapists really paid off.
