Chapter 3 : Escape from Planet Crazy
"Okay, Kid-kun. After some time spent examining your results, I have come to the astounding and grim conclusion that..." Sam started, pausing for dramatic effect. "You're hopeless. Your OCD is incurable."
"I never wanted to be 'cured' in the first place, Sam!" Kid argued. "Symmetry is the beauty in the world. I find peace and happiness in it!"
"But I may be able to help your self-destruction that inevitably occurs after someone points out something asymmetrical."
"I also found out a way to do that." Professor Stein said cheekily. "If the problem lies within Kid-kun, we might as well--"
"You're not dissecting me!" Kid screamed, knowing the professor's strange hobby and addiction.
"Ah ha ha... Of course not... I was only joking..." He said. A wide smile was written across his face, but he was clearly disappointed.
"Now, as I was saying. I will keep you in an isolated, asymmetrical room for a while. You'll eventually get used to--"
"WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER." Kid snapped.
Suddenly, the office phone started to ring. There was a moment of silence among the group before Sam answered.
On the other side of the line, Lord Death's voice was heard. "Wassup? Wassup? How's my son doing over there, Merlins? Everything gooood?"
"FATHER! You're in on this?!" Kid screamed loudly, meaning to be heard over the phone. "Never mind! They plan on kidnapping me! Tell them to let me leave at once! They won't listen to me, but if it's you--"
"Kid, I can't do that! It's true; your OCD is getting out of hand!"
"L-Lord Death... the results? Do you still wish to hear them?" Sam "Merlins" asked.
"Yeah, continue!"
"Kid-kun is incurable! Can you hear me, Lord Death-sama?!" Sam tried to shout into the phone, but was drowned out by the Shinigami's son's yelling and screaming.
"Wazzat?! Can't hear ya, Merlins!"
"Wait a second, okay?!" Sam looked to Stein and pointed to the door. Both of them slipped out while Liz was attempting to calm the screaming Kid down. Patty was laughing hysterically.
Outside the door, Kid's deafening screaming was thankfully much quieter.
"... I think my ears are bleeding..." Stein said, loud enough for Lord Death to hear.
"Ah ha ha ha! That's Kid for ya!" the Shingami laughed.
"As I was going to say before, your Kid-kun is incurable of his worsening OCD. But I can rid him of the overly drastic events that follow. Should I explain?"
"Go ahead!"
"Lord Death, may I--" Professor Stein started.
"You can't dissect my son today, Stein." Lord Death said simply.
"STOP INTERRUPTING ME, WOULD YOU?!" Sam erupted. "Oh! U-uh, I'm talking to this dummy here, not you, Shinigami-sama!"
"Ah ha ha!"
"S-so, I was thinking we could leave him in an asymmetrical room for a few days and let him used to asymmetrical things. Of course we'll feed him and--"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, that won't work. I've gotta mission for that son of mine!"
"B-but sir! Isn't your son's health more important than--" Stein found himself saying again. He'd already told Kid that his mental health was more important than a mission, but why did he have to explain this to his father?
"Ah, if he can still scream like that, he'll be fine!" He laughed.
"...You're surprisingly careless..." Stein and Sam said simultaneously.
"I'm not careless!" He laughed. "I just know Kid better than anyone! When he's sick, he'll cry like he does when he has a paroxysm!"
"When was the last time he got sick?" Stein asked.
"Oh, maybe when he was about... five? Yeah, that seems right!"
"THAT WAS YEARS AGO! Shinigami-sama, with all due respect, I cannot let you neglect your son's sicknesses!"
Sam poked him in the shoulder urgently.
"... Okay! I've decided! You get to keep him for a week! Put him in that room you told me about!"
Sam poked harder.
"Perfect! We'll return him to Shibusen in precisely that time!"
Sam was now frantically punching Stein's shoulder with his finger.
"Well, goodbye! See ya!" Lord Death hung up.
"STEIN!" Sam screamed.
"What, Sam?! can possibly be more important than Kid-kun's health right now?!"
"The fact that he's gone!" Sam yelled.
Stein whipped his head around to look through the glass door that lead to Sam's office. There was no trace of Kid to be seen. Even Liz and Patty had disappeared.
"WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?! WE CAN'T LOSE A STUDENT! WHERE DID HE GO?!" Stein turned his screw frantically, trying, in vain, to organize his thoughts.
"LORD DEATH WILL HAVE OUR HEADS IF HE FINDS OUT WE LET HIS SON ESCAPE! Or, more importantly... MY HEAD!"
"NO! We can't lose students, no matter their rank! All students are equally important!"
"Well, I'm glad you think that way, professor." Kid's voice sounded from behind the two. They slowly turned around. There stood Kid, his two weapons on either side of him.
"KID-KUN?! What are you-- How did you-- HUH?!" Sam yelled.
"You, on the other hand, are incredibly selfish." Kid said, slapping Sam across the face.
"Wha?!! How dare--"
"How dare I ? No. Your priority should be the students at Shibusen! My father hired you as the school's therapist; you should care about the weapons and meisters rather than your own sorry life! And if you were really that scared, you could've worked something out with my father! You know him! You know how..." Kid said, but then stopped in mid-sentence, looking for a word to describe his father.
"Easy-going?" Stein offered
"That's it. You know easy-going and laid back my father is! He knows I won't get hurt on my way back to Shibusen! He also knows that my escape wouldn't have been on either of you!"
"... I'm sorry, Kid-kun... Your personality is the complete opposite of your father's, you know that?"
"Yeah... I know."
