Sunday Morning

Onika laid in her bed, one arm bent behind her head, back against the head board. Much similar to how she had been earlier in the morning, the only difference this time around was Beyoncé lying snug on her chest asleep.

She still hadn't entirely comprehended what happened. Sure Beyoncé said she wanted her, she heard that just fine; but would she change her mind when she woke? She couldn't help but to be vigilant, nothing had ever been so easy for her, so why would it be now?

While thoughts of doubt plagued Onika's mind, she had almost entirely forgotten she had an aunt getting ready for church. In theory she would've been getting ready as well, but clearly that wouldn't be happening soon, or later, or at all really.

Only when a mellow knock sounded on the door did she even remember there was a church service today. Sooner than she could react Connie was peeking into the room.

Her head ticked for just a moment, the apparent shock -or rather confusion- easily readable on her face, but who's to say she still didn't attempt to hide it.

Connie fumbled for words before her tongue and lips finally began to agree with one another.

"I was coming to get you for church but uh um... is everything ok here? Did something... happen? Or..." she fished around for the reasoning of this scene. Because it most definitely wasn't something normal to witness, not when Onika could barely call Beyoncé a friend less than two weeks ago; at least not admittedly.

"Yeah everything's good, we just... it's a long story." She exhaled the big breath she had consumed figuring she'd rather save the explanation. Even if it was her aunt, probably the closest person to her, she wasn't quite ready to queue her in on what this meant. Hell, she wasn't even exactly sure what this meant.

Connie gave an awkward nod, "Ok, I'll see you later." She spoke before closing the door behind herself.

Onika's eyes returned to the ceiling. Her mind pondering Connie. How would she feel? She thought. How does she feel? Onika could give a fuck about what anybody else thought when it came to who's she's with, but Connie's opinion mattered to her. She had only ever been the one positive consistent person in her life.

Connie knew a great deal about Onika, but Onika never really came out to her. Dating in general was just a topic they always seemed to avoid some way or another: curtesy of Onika.

Connie is a Christian woman, and though she had never been discriminatory to her niece in any other way, Onika still feared the possibility of being shunned by her. What if her love for God was so strong she chose to stop loving her? She thought.

Suddenly Beyoncé stirred against her chest. She yawned wide squeezing her arms tight around Onika's torso. She laid still like that for a couple moments longer before lifting her chin up to look at Onika.

She just stared at her, her eyes lidded and tired, but she refused to look away.

The corner of Onika's lips curled into smile.

"Why you starin' at me?"

"You're pretty." Beyoncé mumbled with a soft smile.

Onika had to look away. She wasn't familiar with the tingly feeling those few words elicited from her stomach. It did stretch a wide grin across her face though, that was for sure. Any negative thoughts she currently had temporarily flushed from her system.
