The front door opened. Tina Solange and Beyoncé were met with Doris and Kelly, the energy between the five of them was heavy and dreading.
Doris had filled Tina in on what transpired with Kelly and Rick, and vise versa from Tina between Mathew and Beyoncé over the phone.
Solange was the only one who hadn't a clue of Kelly's current state, but she knew now wasn't an appropriate time to start asking questions.
It was quiet and everyone's expression did enough talking.
Doris allowed them inside and they immediately went for hugs. Tina went for Kelly, Doris for Beyoncé, and Solange ended up somewhere in the middle but of course wasn't left out either way.
The rest of the evening was pretty much this way. Once Tina, Beyoncé, and Solange had unpacked their belongings in the guest rooms they all came together for essentially a group discussion. This was mainly for Solange and Kelly, letting them know the few things they didn't. And after that they all sat together in the living room dressed drown under piles of blankets watching movies to try and lighten the mood.
It was their best effort for some normality. And eventually they all fell asleep there in the living room together.
When morning came Beyoncé was by herself. She didn't like the feeling of being surrounded by family and then suddenly nothing.
But she did realize and understand Kelly and Solange still had to go to school. Doris and Tina still had to work. The world didn't stop simply because of their situation, and her suspension.
Beyoncé sat up on the couch going to change into different clothes. She decided she wouldn't sit there all day doing nothing. That would give her time to think, too much time to think, and overthink. She'd rather keep herself busy with a clear mind.
A walk
The idea came to her. She'd go on a walk with her earbuds in listening to music. She could enjoy the little nature Houston had to offer while getting in a light exercise. It seemed calming and productive, a good idea thus far.
She changed into a sleeveless dry fit top, along with two toned tights that cut off at her calves, her Nike shoes were laced up, and her hair was wrapped up in a tight, high bun.
She stuffed her buds in her ears before leaving and locking up the house behind her. It occurred to her she may need to ask Doris for a spare key to keep sometime soon. The spare under the mat was fine for now of course, but for future reference considering how long they might be staying there.
She followed the path of the sidewalk while music occupied her senses humming along. It was quite a beautiful day out.
It seemed the grass on every lawn was a deep, and vibrant green. The trees were tall and luscious, full of life. And it only got better at the park.
Nostalgia ran through her coming here, it had been a long time since she'd been. The dirt trail was surrounded by greenery and colorful plants that were scattered in abundance. And looking up, past the trees, the sky was as clear as it could possibly be, showing off its soft blue while a warm shimmer of light snaked through the branches and hit her face.
It reminded her of Onika for some odd reason. Well, at least it was odd at first, but then it made perfect since to Beyoncé.
The crystal clear sky, with no cloud in sight was fitting of Onika. Her skin was perfect, not a single blemish to be found no matter how hard you squinted. And her impeccable smile would blind anyone just as the sun would at the peak of its day.
