Nicki stood frozen in the isle. Time disappeared. Despite holding the toilet paper, she forget her reason for even entering the store in the first place.
"Wha... what are you doing here." She managed to speak.
"Getting some stuff for my new place." She held up the paper plates and napkins in her hands.
Onika wasn't sure her stomach could handle much more of this. Not only had she just appeared out of nowhere, but she was living here too. This couldn't be a coincidence. And knowing her it definitely wasn't one.
"Lani stop... what the hell do you want from me." Onika could now depict what she was feeling, anger.
"Nothing Nick... I'm just trying to live my life. You ran away from me, I let you go. It's that simple."
"If it's that simple then why the hell are you here."
Lani tried to act as if she was surprised.
"I can't move around as I please? You know I'm an explorer Nick I love to see new places, new people. Speaking of, you have any new people in your life? Maybe a cute new little girlfriend-"
Onika scoffed.
"Man fuck this." She quickly turned with her toilet paper walking out of that isle away from her.
She went to the empty self check out line getting out of there as fast as she could. Onika couldn't possibly stand being in the same vicinity as Lani for another minute.
She drove home as fast as she could too dodging traffic nearly getting into an accident, but she could care less. She wanted to yank all of the hair out of her head, scream, cry, punch something.
Yes she had moved to Texas because she was a troubled kid, her mom was sick. But Lani was almost her main reasoning for calling Connie in the first place. Of course she never mentioned her to Connie though, she knew her situation would've been enough to be allowed to stay with her and if she could've gone with never mentioning Lani again that's what she was going to do, and that's what she did.
Lani had practically destroyed Onika, she nearly committed suicide behind her. Moving to Texas was the decision that kept her from following through with that. It kept her from allot of other things actually. Dealing with her mother, the law, the people, and so forth. New York was just one big nightmare for her.
That's the kind of person Onika was, she ran away from things when they got too hard. It seemed to work for her for a while too, but now it seemed it was only catching up.
She arrived at the apartment forgetting the toilet paper in the car. All she was focused on was locking herself in her room. She closed the front door behind herself quietly, hoping she could avoid Connie finding out she was back; she wasn't up for a conversation at the moment for obvious reasons.
That was until she heard that laugh...
"Bey?" She questioned quickly stepping into the living room.
It was her, thank God it was her.
The tightness in her chest released some. She just wanted to hug her close, nuzzle her face into her neck, vent a little. Allot actually.
"Are you ok?" Beyoncé questioned looking at her.
Onika nodded quickly before looking to Connie.
"Um, do you mind if we go to my room?" She asked avoiding eye contact.
"Go ahead sweetie, I was just about to head out. I'll see you two later." Connie dismissed them, and bey got off of the couch going to Nicki's room with her.
