"May I have this dance?"
"...Yes."
An innocent, satisfied smile spreads across Maggie's face as she takes Alex's hand, spinning her in and swaying to the music. Alex's arms fall on her shoulders and Maggie holds her waist, pulling her close and leading in a slow rhythm. They say nothing, holding each other and immersing themselves in blissful indulgence. The cliché of it all was not lost on them; they just didn't care. Maybe things become so popular and overdone for a reason... because they work.
"This is really beautiful, Maggie." Alex speaks softly into her ear as the first song ends.
"Only the best for Ms. Danvers," Maggie replies, lifting her arm for Alex to spin under.
"How did you set this up? I know you can't reach that high," she teases, earning a scoff.
"I did get a little help from your super-sister for the balloons... uh, don't touch them though, her breath is highly reactive. You only make that mistake once. We'll need a hazmat squad in here when they deflate."
Alex began to laugh, until she realized Maggie was serious. Flustered, she clears her throat and returns to their dance.

"I prefer whiskey, or something hard – wine makes me gassy," Alex confesses through giggles, slightly intoxicated. She sits across from Maggie at her kitchen counter, who attempts to sober her up before she leaves. Alex was more of a lightweight than she let on, and her body processed alcohol like a truth serum.
"Right now we're just gonna have some water, okay? There you go, good job," Maggie patronizes, amused by her role as babysitter. She had brought some champagne for their night out, and Alex got... excited.
"What are you doing in my apartment, I have a girlfriend," Alex slurs, taking a sip of her water and slouching on her stool.
"Don't worry, I don't think she'll mind." Maggie props her up on the counter and sits, eating an apple from the fruit bowl. Alex grabs it from her and takes a sloppy bite.
"Here, have a bagel. Big bite, good girl," Maggie coaxes and rubs her back - as a joke at first, but continues with a soft smile. Alex smiles too and leans into her, humming an unfamiliar tune and holding her bagel.
"I'm tired, I want to sleep, let me sleeeeeep!"
"Finish your water and I'll help you get to bed. Deal?"
"Fiiiiiine," Alex grunts and chugs the entire glass in seconds. Maggie is impressed and guides her to the bed, where – in true Alex fashion – a pair of pyjamas sits out, folded, exactly as she left them that morning. Alex tries to untie her dress, spinning like a dog chasing its tail, until she gets dizzy and plops on the bed. Maggie snorts laughing as she walks up behind her to undo the clasp.
"You are a mess," she smirks, "a beautiful mess."
"Mm, shut up."
Alex shimmies out of her red lace dress and crawls into bed, wearing just her underwear. Maggie offers to help her dress, but Alex wiggles under the covers and throws her bra on the floor. She pulls the blanket up to her neck and burps.
"Alex! Gross," Maggie exclaims, covering her mouth with her hand as she laughs at her unfiltered girlfriend. Alex wears a smug smile. Maggie puts the pyjamas back in a drawer and picks the dress up off the ground, hanging it carefully in the closet; Alex stretches her hands into the air to request Maggie's presence.
"What now?"
"Come here. C'mere c'mere c'mere," Alex whispers as Maggie joins her at the side of the bed, "no, closer. Come here."
Maggie obliges, letting Alex pull her closer until her breath heats Maggie's ear, "I have a secret."
"Oh? Do tell," Maggie replies.
"I'm gay," Alex whispers, giggling a little bit, "I'm so gay, I love ladies!"
"Well that's good news!" Maggie plays along, "How else would I explain all the kissing we've been doing lately?"
Alex snickers and pulls Maggie into the bed, catching her off balance. Maggie lands on top of her.
"You're pretty." Alex nods her head like she's come to a great conclusion. "Yep. You're pretty."
Maggie kisses her forehead and rolls off of her, getting up to leave now that Alex was all settled. Alex grabs her wrist; with a surprisingly tight grip considering her blood alcohol content, she pulls Maggie back.
"Stay."
"What?"
"Stay here, I'm lonely."
"I don't have a change of clothes, or a toothbrush -"
"Eh, use mine." Alex swats the air dismissively.
"You want me to use your toothbrush?"
"Just stay in bed with me, please?"
Maggie looks back at her, surprised to find genuine adoration in her eyes; this was the first request she'd made that wasn't whining, either.
"Stay."
Maggie pauses, then removes her suit jacket, sitting down next to Alex. She unbuttons her shirt and walks to the closet, looking for the tee she'd borrowed the first time she spent the night. Spotting it at the back of the shelf, she pulled the orange fabric and found one of her own t-shirts tucked behind it. Maggie looks back at her girlfriend and smiles, wondering how long ago she'd taken it; she walks over to Alex and presses a kiss to her lips, feeling her instantly soften from her restless, inebriated state. She pulls the 'Hello, Sunshine' shirt over her head and takes off her pants, climbing into bed next to Alex. Reaching around her back she takes Alex's hand, pulling it over her body and assuming little spoon position. Alex sighs contentedly and cuddles in closer; she smiles, managing to whisper a soft goodnight, baby before sleep consumes her.
