Roy smiled softly as he made his way through his place. Every piece of furniture reminded him of memories he wished he would forget. A light hum radiating from the air conditioner in the window reminded him of Edward humming as he cooked a rarely edible meal, that Roy would choke down anyways. He missed the way that Edward had made his silent comfortable apartment into an actual home. The decorations that Edward had put all over for Roy's birthday that were never removed, the throw pillows that Roy hated but Edward insisted were stylish, and the way that his bed always smelled of the younger blonde despite the fact that it had been 3 months since Ed had slept in his bed.
Edward had made it very clear that he intended to return to Roy, at least to Roy it was. Edward was always sending mixed signals. The way Edward's brain worked would always be a mystery to Roy. The longer that Roy paced around his house, the more the alcohol was taking affect. His original love towards Edward was now turning to anger and confusion. Edward had wanted Roy to beg him to stay but Roy couldn't do that to the man he loved. Edward was married with a baby on the way. How could Roy ever ask someone to leave their family, he wondered what would've changed had he asked him not to leave. Would Edward still be his or would he have began to resent Roy, too many questions that Roy didn't have the answers too.
"Chief? Are you in here?" Havoc's raspy voice from years of smoking was drowned out by the loud classical music playing throughout his bosses apartment. Havoc pinched his nose as the sour smell of whiskey and sweat met his nose. A hand sticking outside the bathroom door on the floor slightly waved as Havoc made his way towards a very intoxicated Roy.
"Havoc! What you here for?" Roy slurred out loudly. "Well, you haven't been to work in a few days and your place smells like a whore house, which I'm now convinced is coming from you. Been visiting Madam Christmas?" Havoc queried. "Visiting, yes. Partaking? No" Roy informed with a dismissive and slightly inappropriate hand gesture.
"We should probably try to get you cleaned up a bit, then you can sign some paperwork and we can go out if you feel up too it" Havoc suggested, earning a slight nod and with that he put his arm around Roy to help him up.
Havoc adjusted Roy's weight down to the chair, releasing his grasp on Roy. "Now that you're showered and a little sober, let's get you some coffee. Is this binge about a certain blonde?"
"I guess that would depend on which one you mean"
"Riza?" Havoc guessed
"Edward." Roy corrected.
"The angry little father to be? I think I need a drink now too" Havoc joked. "Let's go to a bar so I can try to wrap my head around this a bit" he added.
"I don't know why I let you talk me into this" Roy yelled over the music as they made their way through the crowd of dancing people towards the bar. Havoc gave him a smile, almost losing the cigarette that was placed between his lips. Havoc gestured for two beers to the bartender. Havoc leaned into Roy so that his mouth was closer to his ear, "So, how did or why, no, how did it happen?"
"One evening, I was working late, and Edward had just returned from a trip to study some form of alchemy. Anyways, he was turning in his report and he was wearing something that wasn't leather and I made a comment which angered him. I tried to apologize, and he tried to hit me and when I caught his fist, something in his eyes changed. It's been a ride so far but I wouldn't change anything." Roy reminisced, making sure not to mention too many details.
Havoc didn't respond to anything, he just laughed and continued looking past Roy. Roy turned his head enough to see what had caught his subordinate's eye. It was Edward, he was back. Roy started making his way towards him, weaving through people.
Roy wasn't sure what or if he should say anything to Edward. Instead, he placed himself against Edward's back, swaying his hips against Edward. Edward turned his just enough to realize who was grinding against him, with the realization that it was Roy, he decided to grind back harder. Roy leaned down slightly, resting his head in the crook of Edward's neck, he mumbled against Edward's skin. "Where have you been?" "Let's not talk here, can we go somewhere else?" Edward asked breaking away from Roy to face him. Roy laced his fingers with Ed's. "Lead the way Full Metal."
Roy released Edward's hand as they walked up to a playground. "A park? You really are a lot younger than me, is this a sign that I'm robbing the cradle as Falman would say" Roy said with a chuckle, "Shut you trap old man, It was just to loud at the bar" Edward said with a slight annoyance. "I missed you" Roy breathed out with a smug smile.
Edward shook his head, "That's not why I'm here, well at least not right at this second." "What can I do for you then Full Metal?" Roy asked, trying to disguise the disappointment in his voice. His poker face was always exceptional. "Well, I need some work, Winry's pregnancy has had a lot of complications so far and I can't afford the special doctors she needs, its not like I can flash my state alchelmist watch around anymore" Edward coughed awkwardly after confessing his problem. "Of course I can help you with that, but we could have discussed that in a more formal setting, my office perhaps." Roy stated without emotion. He was drunk, his head was reeling and Edward only wanted to speak of work. It wasn't exactly the way he wanted to spend his night but anything was better if Edward was around. "Would you accompany me to lay and gaze upon the stars" Roy asked. "Sure ya weirdo, coulda asked like a normal person" Edward answered with his signature toothy grin.
As they laid on the freshly cut grass from that morning, they pointed out consultations. Roy knew the proper names, Edward more so made them up as he went. "So you miss me huh?" Edward teased. "I still have your favorite shirt in my dresser drawer and i miss the way your nails would dig into my back as I-" "Alright, alright I get what ya mean ya pervert." Edward blushed.
They turned to lay on their sides to face each other. No one made a sound, it's as if they were afraid to ruin the moment between the two. It was still loud outside, even being a few blocks from the bar. Between the crickets and the owls, it felt just as loud as the bar to both of them.
Edward knew he was in trouble with the situations he kept putting himself in, but he had found trouble his whole life. It was nothing new, and he didn't think he could live without it. Roy was trouble and happiness wrapped up in a nice little bow. Something he wanted so badly but was slightly out of reach. It was like when he and Alphonse searched for the philosopher stone. They would get so close, only to have it ripped away from them, having to start all over. He knew that he would have to leave Roy again, confused and alone. It was selfish and wrong but he wanted any time he could get with him. Even if that meant hurting Roy when he leaves in the morning. With that decision made, Edward scooted closer to Roy. "I think, we should go somewhere even quieter." "Anywhere you are Edward, is never quiet."
