Edward walked into the military building, greeting people as he went. He and Winry had a huge fight before he left for Central. It left Ed with a weird feeling, normally when he fought with her, it would bug him until it was resolved. This time, it felt like it didn't matter.
"You said you weren't going to go back to military work!" Winry shouted as Edward pulled out his suitcase. "Winry, its my job, I've been doing it for so long now. This isn't up for discussion" He barked at his partner. She sat on the bed next to the suitcase as he packed. "I just thought, we would be starting a family and you'd finally close that chapter of your life. You got Al's body back, I don't understand why you're still doing it" She prodded. Only angering Ed more. "I'm a state alchemist, I'm a dog of the military! They're not just going to let me walk away from this" He sighed, slamming his suitcase that was now filled. "I have to go or I'll miss my train. Can we end this?" Edward pleaded. The only response was a wrench being thrown across the room, which made him run using his suitcase as a shield.
He pushed open the door to the office of Roy Mustang, he was welcomed by the barking of Black Hayate. He patted the dogs head, as Hawkeye smiled in his direction. Smoke filling the room as Havoc breathed out. "What's up kid? I thought you were on a honeymoon?" Falman asked, not looking in his direction. "The bastard has a job for me so I had to cut it short." Edward joked. "It's not nice to speak about yourself that way Full Metal." The colonels voice echoing through the office. "WHO YOU CALLING A PIPSQUEAK WHO'S SO TINY YOU NEED A MICROSCOPE TO SEE HIM" "I really thought you'd outgrown that Edward" Hawkeye teased.
"Come in here, lets discuss the job." Roy demanded. Edward followed behind him into a private office. Roy made his way to his desk, sitting on the desk was mountains of paperwork that had yet to be touched. Edward closed the door behind him, making his way to the desk and sitting on top of it and the untouched documents. He smirked at his superior, who looked more irritated than amused. Roy pulled out a file from his desk, setting it in between the two of them. "There's word of a philosophers stone being made, and we both know this isn't a Homunculi. So, we're sending you to check it out, since you're well informed on the subject, this shouldn't be hard to resolve." Roy said without making eye contact with the young blonde. He was afraid his eyes would say something that his lips weren't. "I'll get right on that" Edward said, snatching the file out of Roy's hand.
Edward made his way to the door, before his hand touched the knob, "Where are you staying while you're here investigating this" Roy said cutting off Edwards exit once again, but this time, he simply used words. "I know where the key is" Edward answered with a slight smile. "We're not together anymore." Roy spoke slightly. "Us, or you and Riza?" Edward contemplated, before walking back over to Roy's desk. "Riza and myself. We signed the divorce papers, she moved the last of her stuff out yesterday. I..I couldn't be with her, knowing that I love you." Roy stuttered the last of the sentence. Edward gave him a genuine smile. "I see, better late than never. So, I'll see you tonight, any special time I should be there?" Edward said with a seductive look in his eyes. "I get off of work at five. I should be home by five fifteen." Roy responded, returning the look to Edward. With that, Edward turned and left the office.
Before Edward left the building, he made his way to the payphones. He picked up the phone, dialing a number, that he's dialed a million times before. "Hello?" The sweet voice rang though the phone line. "Winry, it's me Ed" "Edward! I'm sorry about the fight, I just didn't want you to leave so soon, but I do have great news" He could hear her smiling through the phone as she said it. "I'm pregnant! We're going to have a baby" She cheered. Edward almost choked on the air he was breathing. He slammed the phone down hanging up on her.
