6: The Dinner Party pt.2

Fifteen minutes later we are all sitting at an extremely large dining table in the extremely large dining room in Gaunt Manor. The boys, Scarlett, Ginny, and Astoria had changed back into their formal clothes before coming to dinner. A few of them still look a little sweaty but then again they had just played a match of Quidditch. Malfoy still has a smirk on his face, still obnoxiously boasting his win to the other team.

I'm sitting inbetween Brendan and Scarlett and across from Malfoy. Ginny and Ron are sitting close to the other end of the table. Margarey is sitting at one head of the table while the other one is empty; it must've been Jonathan's old seat.

The adults are talking about something but I decide to simply tune them out. They weren't talking about anything that interested or involved me so why I listen?

I feel someone nudge my foot from under the table. I look around the table and see Malfoy looking at me from across the table. I scowl at him, which makes him smile back. He's a weirdo, that one. And I'm engaged to him.

Scarlett nudges me with her elbow, making me take my attention away from Malfoy and on to my younger sister.

"What?" I whisper.

"Why are you mad at Draco?" Scarlett whispers back.

"Scar, why would I be mad at Malfoy?" I ask her quietly.

"One, you're still calling him by his surname. Two, you just seem mad at him. Three, you didn't look extremely pleased when he got here earlier" Scarlett whispers back her answer.

"Well it's a force of habit and I'm not mad" I whisper before turning my attention back to my food.

"So, Brendan, Scarlett, you're both going to Hogwarts this year?" Mrs. Malfoy asks the two of them.

"Yes we are, Narcissa" Brendan replies.

"What house do you think you're going to be sorted into?" Mrs. Malfoy asks.

"Slytherin, of course" Brendan says.

"Slytherin or Ravenclaw" Scarlett replies.

Both Margarey and Brendan have told me that Scarlett was at the top of her class when she attended Beauxbatons. For that reason it wouldn't be suprising if she was sorted into either Slytherin or Ravenclaw.

"What about you, Briella?" Mrs. Malfoy asks.

That is a question that I never thought I would be answering. In First Year all I knew was that I was happy to be even accepted into Hogwarts, let alone be sorted into one of the houses. Ever since then I have only thought that my only option was Gryffindor.

The Sorting Hat said that I was beyond smart enough for Ravenclaw as well. But my bravery somehow out weighed my smarts. And being sorted into Gryffindor sent me on the path of becoming part of the Golden Trio and becoming friends with Ron and Ginny.

Now I don't know what house I'll be sorted into. The two most logical options are Gryffindor or Slytherin. Gryffindor because it was my old house and Slytherin because I'm a descendant of Salazar Slytherin himself and all of his descendants are sorted into his house.

"Gryffindor or Slytherin" I reply after a minute.

Mrs. Malfoy slowly nods her head, whether in agreement or simply accepting the answer I do not know.

After nearly an hour, all of us kids leave the dining room and go into the foyer. The adults had somewhat kicked us out so they could talk about 'adult things', even though all of us except Scarlett, Astoria, and Ginny are eighteen or older.

"What shall we do now?" Zabini asks.

"Suggestions anyone?" Scarlett says, looking around at all of us.

"We could....watch a film?" I suggest.

"A film?" Pansy asks.

"It's a Muggle thing" I reply.

"Well what is it?" Pansy asks, slightly flaring her nostrils in annoyance.

"A movie is a set of moving pictures that tell a story" I reply.

"Sounds fun. What movie do you suggest? We have a screening room here" Scarlett says.

"The Shining or Clueless. The Shining is a horror movie and Clueless is a romance movie" I suggest.

"Clueless" Pansy and Daphne say at the same time.

"The Shining" The boys all say in sync.

"Ginny? Scarlett? Astoria?" I ask, looking at the three of them waiting for their answers.

"The Shining" Ginny says.

"Clueless" Astoria says.

"The Shining" Scarlett says after a minute of thinking.

Pansy, Daphne, and Astoria audibly sigh but don't say anything else in complaint.

Brendan and Scarlett lead us all to the screening room. Which turns out to be a mini movie theatre. There's even a popcorn machine!

Twenty minutes later were all sitting in
the screening room, eating popcorn and waiting for the movie to start. I was sitting next to Malfoy. Somehow he had managed to slither into the seat next to me, which was reserved for Ginny. She was forced to sit with Zabini because Malfoy took her seat.

The closest person to us is Pansy and she's sitting four seats away from us. That means that Malfoy might try to do something. I doubt it but he might, he's pretty unpredictable.

The lights dim and the movie starts. The theme begins to play as the movie and credits start. I slightly smile becaus I absolutely love this movie.

"Why are you smiling?" Malfoy whispers in my ear.

I slightly jump before turning and looking at him. It's dark in the room so I can barely make out his face.

"Because I actually really like this movie" I whisper back.

I turn my attention back to the movie, vowing not to show my annoyance if Malfoy annoys me. I don't need Scarlett still thinking that I'm mad at him.

By the end of the movie, Malfoy is clutching onto my arm like a little girl. While I'm competely unfazed by the movie because I've seen it so many times. Pansy and Ron are clutching onto each other. Zabini is clutching onto Ginny while she looks unfazed. Brendan is clutching onto Daphne and she's clutching onto him. Scarlett and Astoria look somewhat unfazed.

We all file out of the screening room and back into the foyer. All of the adults are in there, seeming to be waiting for us in there.

"Children, it's time to go" Mrs. Greengrass says to her children.

All of the other parents say the same thing to their children. After fifteen minutes, all of the guests have left Gaunt Manor.

And that was my first Dinner Party as Briella Gaunt. And it went pretty smoothly.
