Prologue - International Schooling and Bonding Project
"What's up!!!!!!" someone shouts really close to my ears.
"What?!" I answer while rubbing my eyes. Yes, someone, who I don't know, has waken me up with screams... I have a feeling that I'm going to have to commit murdered today. "Who the hell are you, anyway?"
"I'm João" he smiled while he said that "and I'm guessing that you are the other student of Portugal in the International Schooling and Bonding Project, am I right?" he asked.
"Yeah. So..." alright, I usually don't behave like this, but I really don't feel like talking right now.
"Nothing..." he said while sitting next to me in the waiting room of the airport. "What's your name, anyway?"
"Catarina. And If you don't mind can you just shut the hell up? I've been up for almost twelve hours now, and I really don't feel like talking to anyone!" All right, that's a lie, I've only been up for like four or five hours, but this guy doesn't need to know that.
"Defensive much!? But all right, I will let you to your thoughts" with that being said he just put his headphones on and started listening to music.
He sounds like a nice guy, but I really don't feel like being polite. It's probably because he looks like almost 90% of the guys in my school (well now old school). You know: short brown hair, brown eyes, tanned skin, that kind that looks really tanned in the summer and a little bit pale in the winter months, and about one eighty tall... Just looking at him makes me remember the friends that I'm leaving behind...
While he is listening to his music I look around to the people that are around me and pretend that I'm looking out for someone, when really I'm thinking of how far I've come. I'm a seventeen-year-old Portuguese girl from a relatively small town, and right now I'm in the airport of the biggest city in Portugal to catch a plane that will take me far away from my family and friends to a different country and continent to study in a school with a bunch of other international students in a project that is supposed to show that we all can work together and get along. Lame right? But since I got a scholarship I really couldn't say no...
"Senhoras e Senhoras, todos os passageiros do voo TP1853 com destino Nova Iorque, por favor desloquem-se à porta número 12. Todos os passageiros do voo TP1853 com destino Nova Iorque, por favor desloquem-se à porta número 12. Obrigada!"
"Ladies and Gentlemen, all the passengers to the flight TP1853 with destination New York please go to the Gate 12. All the passengers to the flight TP1853 with destination New York please go to the Gate 12. We will start the boarding within minutes. Thank you!"
"Well, here we go." Said João with a kind of a sad smile on his face. For the first time I found myself smiling back to him. "Yeah, here we go!"

"So... this is going to be fun!" he said with a smirk in his face.
"And why is that?" I ask even If I already know the answer. Apparently, someone thought that since we were the only ones in this plane in our teens that we would want to be together for a nine hours fight. It's really hilarious right? I'm stuck in a plane for nine hours with a guy that I barely know. What an awesome joke that the universe is playing, right?
"Because..." he said matter-of-factually "we now have nine hours to get to know each other. Isn't that great?"
"Yeah! Amazing!" please, note the sarcasm
"You have a bit of an attitude problem, don't you?"
"What? I do not!" Alright, maybe I'm not helping my case, but I'm not going to sit here and be insulted by this idiot for nine hours! "And look who is talking..." not my best remark, but it's still something, right? ... Right?
"You don't like me very much, do you"
"No, I don't! And do you always talk with question-tags?"
"No, I don't!" he mocked me "And what's your problem? I haven't done anything to you yet!"
"YET! That's what I'm saying!"
"What?"
"Just forget this alright!" Woo, this guy is really getting on my nerves, I'm not usually like this.
"Alright... Besides, when we are at the school and I'm the only one with the same culture as you and you are feeling homesick you will want to talk to me. Just watch and you will see..." he said while looking over to the magazine supplied by the stewardess. "And, by the way, how do you think it will be like? How will they be? Will they like us?"
He is capable of something profound. Shocker!!! "I really don't know... I feel like it is going to be an amazing opportunity, but at the same time it feel strange to be away for our senior year... you know what I want to say?!"
"You have no idea..."
