Chapter 2 - Sorry did you say Watermelon?
"So, what did you think of that?" João finally asked me when we were leaving the auditorium
"That I'm going to die if they ever force me to do exercise!" I replay with a smile
He laughs at that "Okay! But now seriously... What did you think?"
"I don't know... It's seems a bit strange that we are forced to choose something related to music when we don't want to study nothing related to that... but I guess that I feel like that because I'm not used to that... I can't even play a single instrument! But other than that..." I say "And I know that it's important to do a sport, so it makes sense that we have to choose one, but what happened to good old PE? It's not like I used to enjoy it, believe if I could skip it, I would..."
He just burst out laughing at that, again!
"What?" I asked despite already knowing the answer
"You, my friend, are hilarious!" I finally manages to say
Before I can replay, I feel someone touching my shoulder. Turn around and I see a girl standing in front of me. She was a dark ginger hair, blue eyes and she is really, really tall, at least in comparison to me. She is no doubt at least fifteen centimetres taller than me.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for a Catarina Miranda Gomes da Silva" she says with a strong Irish accent.
Before I can replay João says "She is right here" while pointing to me
"Oh!" and she stands her hand for me to shake it and I do "I'm Jade Whetermelen... I'm your new roommate" she says with a smile in her face
"Sorry, did you say Watermelon?" I ask before I can stop my shelf. At that João starts laughing like there is no tomorrow, Jade looks a little bit amused and I just blush, a lot!
"No! Whetermelen" She replays and smiles when she notices who embarrassed I am "And it's okay, you are not the first one to make me that question, believe me..." Like that is going to is going to make me feel so much better, I want to say to her, but this time I stop myself, and I just smile to her
"So... I'm going to give you two time to know each other, and I going to look form my roommate... Who knows, he might be lost looking for me" João finally says. I can't help to notice how silent he was during the conversation, that's not really his style. And then it hits me... he was looking to Jade all this time! Worst, he was checking her out... I need to have a serious conversation with him about this!
"Goodbye Cat! Goodbye Watermelon!" He says while talking away
"He is a little strange, isn't he?" she says, more to herself than to me, but I can't fight the urge to answer "You have no idea!" she laughs a little at that
"So, come this way. I'm going to show you our room!"
***
"So... what do you think?" I askew while Jade is standing in the middle of the room looking around
"It's seams fine, but you know... I little dull... it needs light and colour, flags and pictures, inspiring quotes in the walls, you know... something personal"
"I couldn't agree more! Let's get this party started!"
And so, for the next two hours we put our flags (it turned out that she had one as big as mine, let's just say that I was impressed) and our pictures in the walls, and we decorated the dorm room the best we could.
"Well, now it looks much better, don't you think?" she finally asks me while jumping into her bed. I laugh at that "Yeah, I do... it looks much more personal... I like it!"
After that we just stood there, sitting in our beds, looking around. Let's say that I was happy with the roommate that I got. She was fun and easy-going and we actually were starting off really well. I could see myself being her friend. This whole experience wasn't turning out so bad as I expected.
After half an hour of looking around and doing small talk she asked me "So... what's going on with you and that guy you were with?"
"Who? João?" she nods "Absolutely nothing... we are friends I guess, we came from the same country and all of that, I guess we just were bound to be friends... But why?" I ask her giving her a knowing look, which only got me a pillow on the face
"Nothing, you two just seamed rather cosy... other than that... but honestly, I'm not trying to know if I have a chance... he probably will never like me and will just date you instead... we did seamed interested in you" I laugh at that comment, so she didn't noticed the way he as looking at her when she arrived, now I really need to talk to him "But whatever, it's not like I can pronounce his name anyway, so why bother..."
"Call him J... I'm pretty sure he won't mind... and just like you said to me... you are not going to be the only one in here who won't be able to say his name... I'm probably the only one here who actually can say it without mispronouncing it... Don't worry!" I try to assure her. It's incredible I've known João for three days and Jade for less than three hours and I'm already playing matchmaker... I'm so awesome! "Now, let's talk about other things, rather than sounds that only exist in Portuguese..."
"What do you have in mind?"
"You will see..." I say as I get up and drag her out of the bed in the direction of the door.
