"So he just..."
"Planted one on me," I said, pushing my pillow into the freshly washed black pillowcase.
I looked over at my laptop screen and saw Jenna's head shaking and a smile on her face.
"K, that's insane. Was it any good?" She asked me.
I grabbed the computer off my desk and sat down on my newly made bed.
"Yes," I replied, "like, so good. And then he kissed me again- like it was normal, like we just kiss all the time."
Jenna laughed and clasped her hands together like a proud mom.
"I can't believe it. Everything is looking up for you!" She cheered.
I smiled at her.
"Yeah, maybe. How's everything with Drew?" I asked.
Jenna rolled her eyes and sighed.
"Fine, I guess. He keeps calling me, saying he wants me back. I don't know what to do," she said defeatedly.
I nodded my head in understanding.
"I say, if you see a future with him, just go for it. I don't think there's any reason to dwell on what happened," I replied, trying to offer up my best advice.
But what did I know? I was always a second choice.
Jenna shrugged and flicked a pen between her fingers.
"I guess so," she said, "Ugh, I just don't know. I don't know why he would do that to me."
"He never said why?" I asked.
"No!" Jenna exclaimed, "He just said he was sorry and that he wasn't thinking rationally."
I sighed and leaned back against my pillow.
"Maybe he needed some space. I think you should start things off slow and just see where it goes, Jen. You can't just give up this easily," I told her.
She nodded and took a deep breath.
"Yeah, you're right," she said, "hey, I gotta get to class. I'll call you when I get home."
I waved her goodbye and hung up the call. I needed to get started on some homework anyway.
But while I was reviewing my history notes and writing my speech, the only thing I could focus on was Cole- his lips, his hands, his scent, his voice. Everything about him made me ache with longing, but my mind was telling me to run away.
Something inside me knew he would break my heart.
I should've listened to that voice in my head.
A knock on my door snapped me out of my thoughts, and I realized I'd actually drifted off for about an hour.
"Kira, its Cole," a muffled voice said through the door.
My heartbeat quickened and I scrambled to fix my bed. I hadn't seen him since the night before, and I was very nervous about what he was going to say to me.
