"for f- ugh" gaten groaned, struggle clear in his voice.
"how hard is it" he yelled again, standing up as he threw the sticks back into the newly duggen hole
"you know" sadie laughed as she came closer from behind him. "the fires not gonna light by you having your temper little tantrum"
"look you just" - sadie starting, ruffling around with the sticks and fiddling with the match.
"see" she smiled, looking down at the newly litten fire below her. "easy" she remarked before patting him on the back, taking a seat next to caleb on the sand who couldn't help but let out a chuckle.
gaten stayed standing, purely out of defeat. "wow good job buddy" finn congratulated him, as him and millie came from behind to join the others
"oh that, that was nothing" gaten lied, bluffing as he looked down at sadie who for his sake, let him have it.
"hey where's noah?" millie asked as she sat down next to finn, leaving little to no space between them
"he said he had to take a call, something about his parents?" caleb shrugged before bringing his attention back to the fire that lit up the small part of the beach they sat at
"oh okay" millie smiled feeling the weight of finns arm draping over her shoulder.
taking notice, the three across from them stared at one another in confusion, waiting for the other to speak up
"uh - so" gaten coughed, looking the pair up and down. "you two like a couple now?"
millie felt her face heat up, luckily for her, there was no difference from before, since they were sitting so close to the flames

"no" millie defensible yelled, pushing finns arm off of her as he replied completely opposite.
"im uh, gonna go check on noah" millie smiled a fake, cheery smile as she rushed away from the scene, leaving finn with his head in his hands
"idiot" caleb shook his head, slapping gaten on the arm
"what?" gaten replied to his actions, still oblivious to what he had just done.

"noah?" millie whispered, tip toeing her way around to the front of the car where noah stood
"over here" noah whisper yelled, using the flashlight on his phone to guide her "what's up?"
"don't even worry" millie rolled her eyes, resting her elbows on the hood of the car, now at his height level. "who were you talking to?"
"mum, she wanted to make sure we weren't like, dead" noah replied, laughing along with the girl beside him.
"can you believe it's only been four days?" millie stated, looking up at the stars above them
"definitely not" noah laughed, eyes making contact with the boy coming closer from behind them.
"this is my cue" noah sighed, beginning to walk away
"what?" millie asked, grabbing his arm to pull him back, still unknowing of finns presence
all it took was a wink for millie to realise why he was leaving, all too familiar with his actions by now
it went silent for a moment, the anxiousness filling millies thoughts quicker than anything ever before

millie sighed, breaking away from her thoughts as she felt movement coming nearer from beside her
finn moved close, pushing himself up so he was now sitting on the car above millie
feeling some sought of small, millie did the same. now being at almost the same level as him
it went silent again, the both of them focusing there attention only on the star filled sky above them
"why did you tell gaten we weren't s couple?" finn breathed out, eyes meeting millies that were staring directly at the empty, dark road ahead
"why did you tell her we were?" millie replied, confusion clear though her words
"is that a trick question?" finn asked, silence finding its way back to the pair
"why can't we just be us?" millie spoke up, gaze still focused on the road
"we can be" he started, grabbing both her hands
"anything you want us to be"
millie gave in, brown eyes meeting his as she took a deep breath
"this, us.. it's weird for me" she said, closing her eyes as she did so.
"it's okay " finn smiled, his hand finding its way to her cheek "it's weird for me too"
