Ash's POV

It's nighttime here in the Kanto region, and the sky is filled with thousands of stars, each star is unique in its shape or form which gives me a sudden urge to reach and grab one, but it made me realize my dream is a long distance away and I need to work harder to reach it and grasp it in my hand.

I turn to look at Pikachu on my left shoulder and Greninja standing to my right, seeing their gaze fixed upon the town ahead of us. So, I decided to speak my mind.

Ash: "Hey guys, do you think we should spend a year relaxing in Kanto before setting off for another adventure? All this travelling has worn me out."

Pikachu: "Pika!"

Greninja: "Gren!"

The duo nods their heads in agreement with me which was a major relief as I assumed they wouldn't want to stay in a region doing nothing, but relaxing. I'm glad they're with me.

30 Minutes Later

We arrived at the front gate of my house in Pallet Town and I'm ready to get crushed by my mum when she sees me after being away for so long.

I entered my house with the duo following me from behind and I see my mum turn her head with the brightest smile a mother could have.

Delia: "Welcome home dear!"

She runs to hug me and it's bone-crushing, to say the least.

Ash: "Mum! I miss you too, but I can't breathe... need... AIR!"

She lets go of me, but still maintains that smile, she places her hands on my shoulders.

Delia: "It's been a year since you left for Kalos; I've missed you, dear. So how did you do in the Kalos League?"

Ash: "I was the runner-up this time around,  but someone had the edge against me... But that doesn't matter. Mum, can I ask you something?

Delia: "Of course dear!"

Ash: "Can I stay here until my 17th birthday? I need a break from all this travelling and I would like to see how my friends have been."

My mum momentarily looked stunned at my sudden plan, but 5 seconds later, she hugged me... again! How is she so strong!?

Delia: "Of course dear! You can stay if you want, you don't even have to ask."

Ash: "Thanks, mum!"

Delia: "Which reminds me, you turn 16 this week!"

How on earth did I forget!? Man, travelling has worn me to a point where I forget even the simplest things.

Ash: "Oh yeah! How did I forget? I need sleep..."

Delia: "Well, you best relax dear, it's going to be one amazing day when the time comes."

If only my father was here...

Everyone: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASH!"

It's the day of my 16th birthday here in Pallet Town and I'm greeted with the presence of my mum and all my old friends from Kanto High: Lucas, Ethan, and Richie.
