Mitch's POV
~ I don't understand why we didn't get Ty first, considering he lives in Arizona. But anyway, four guys in a little Jeep on a sixteen-hour drive? We have some catching up to do.
~ After we convinced Ty to come with us, we got on a plane to Canada to get Quentin and hopefully Mat. Luckily, Quentin had a dream about us too and so he agreed to come with us to find Jerome. On the other hand, Mat was not as easy to convince. It took a reinactment of a video that we (Sky, Mat, and me) made together for him to remember us. And at that, we were on a flight to New Jersey. Adam, Mat and I sat next to each other on the plane with me in between them. Adam leaned over and whispered, "Do you remember a time where you and I went to New Jersey to rescue Jerome?"
"Indeed I do." I whisper back. My thoughts wonder back to that day. Unfortunatley, it's been getting harder and harder to remember Jerome. Like his smile or his laugh. I forget more each day.
~ We got a hotel not far from Jerome's house. Jason, Sky, Quentin, and Ty would be sharing the room across from mine, Ian, Mat's hotel room. I was getting more nervous by the second. What if we can't find him? Or what if he doesn't remember us? I thought this as all of us got dinner at a pizza place Jerome and I use to go to.
"Guys, when we go find Jerome tomorrow, I want to do it by myself. If that's alright with you guys." The guys all looked around at each other and we agreed that I would do this by myself.
~ The next morning I headed straight to Jerome's house. I had butterflies in my stomach. It only took a few minutes to get to Jerome's. I walked up to the porch like I had a million times but it felt like it was the first. It didn't look like anyone was home so I tried twisting the door knob. It worked! I walked into the house. It was cold and dark. I slowly walked up the stairs, each step I remembered a time that Jerome and I had spent together. As I turned down the hall, I could see a door slightly closed but not fully. I peaked my head in and the first thing I noticed was that the room was bare and empty. The window was open slightly and the curtains flew in the breeze. In the corner, I saw a boy drawing. But he wasn't a boy, it was Jerome. He saw me standing half-way through the door and was frozen. His eyes were iced over and full of shock.
"Go away!" He yelled, and then threw a notebook at me. I bent over and grabbed the notebook. I looked closely at it. It wasn't a notebook, it was a sketchpad. I flipped through the pages that were filled with beautifully detailed drawings of me. With a lonley bacca.
"Don't! You can't see those!" Jerome raced up to me and snatched the sketchpad from my grasp. He looked smaller and more fragille. Like glass.
"Jerome?" I asked quietly. He backed away, tears in his eyes. He huddled back into his corner and started crying.
"This isn't real, this isn't real." Jerome murmured while shaking.
"Jerome, it's me, Mitch. You remember me, don't you?" I asked tears filling in my eyes now. His bottom lip quivered and he nodded his head.
"I had a dream about you once. It was an amazing dream. I spent my whole life thinking I was apart of a great group of friends and then one morning I woke up and it was all over. It was all a dream. I kept looking for your face, hoping that you were real and not some imaginary person. I couldn't bare the thought of losing my...my...benja." He stared at me, waiting for a response.
"So you do remember me? BajanCanadian?" He nodded.
"I've never forgot you, Mitch. How could I forget my family?" He whispered. I ran up to him and hugged him. We cried together and I held him close.
"I don't ever want to forget you." He whispered.
"And I don't want you to forget me." I whisper back, and he looked up and kissed me. I closed my eyes and saw a bright flash of light behind my eyelids. And it was over.
