Two Weeks and a Few Nights Later

Two weeks and a few nights later, I sat at the wooden desk in our bedroom with a crisp piece of parchment, some old books, and a pencil. Rhys lay on the bed, his shirt off and his defined chest muscles shining in the moonlight. He had his hand in his flowing short dark hair. Our bedroom was open to the night. The stars shone in through our open window, and a flowery air breezed through the room.

"Hmmm," I said aloud, pondering the paper in front of me. On it was two tables written in my scrawly handwriting. The title of the first table was "First Names," and it had two columns with names and details that we had collected and researched over the past few weeks. There was also a second table labeled "Middle Names," and it too had columns with a collection of things penciled into it as well.

"I think we've done enough research, don't you think?" I asked Rhys.

He made a sound that I took to mean approval from his spot on the bed. Yes! I heard him shout loud and clear in my head. We had done a lot of asking around, looking through old books from the library, and playing around with sounds and syllables to come up with the list of names that we now had in front of us. We had decided that for both of the twins middle names, we were going to have some of or a sort of a combination of our families names. And the first names were going to be names that we liked and had significant meanings in some of the Ancient Languages as well.

This decision was to Cassian's immense disappointment, for we had asked Mor, Cassian, Azriel, Amren, Elain, and even Nesta for name suggestions. Cassian, not surprisingly, had suggested that we name not just the boy, but the boy and the girl Cassian Jr. We had, of course, not put those types of suggestions on our list. But don't think that Cassian is just vain and stupid, because he did give those suggestions for a reason. He delivered them with a hint of sarcasm, but not too much. For we we all were present in the living room of the House of Wind, and Cassian made himself sound serious enough that we all couldn't help laughing. And that very laughter brought warmth and joy to a cold room, and one to person in particular. For Rhy's had just arrived home an hour or so earlier from a test city in the Winter Court, where an angry High Fae had slashed nine humans into pieces with her sword in protest against having to live amongst them. Cassian's kindness and consideration brought a smile to face as I resumed looking at the parchment in front of me.

"So we have Moren, Amor, and Morrigan for the possible girl middle names," I mused to Rhys, "if we're not going to use Elain and Nesta's names, since they will already be directly related."

"I think Amren would be pissed as hell if we didn't include her name," Rhys said from his spot on the bed, "even though she's off gallivanting with Varian in the Summer Court half the time."

"Yeah, you're right," I said chuckling at the thought. "And plus, Mor might let it get to her head, and we don't need of that," I joked, crossing Morrigan off the list of possibilities. Rhys chuckled again.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" he asked. Of course I knew what he was thinking, the prick, because he had said it through the bond. The name rang through my head, creating an image of swilrling prickly vines and pretty pink flowers. Amor, he practically sang with such love and reverence. I laughed at him, but tears came to my eyes all the same.

"Wow," I said, "I wonder what's going to happen when we pick a first name. Are you going to start singing opera while bawling?"

"Oh you wish." he responded with a smile.

A couple emotional hours later, we had a name circled on both columns and tables. The wondrous piece of parchment was lying on the desk as Rhys and I lay in bed, but we didn't need it anymore. For this was the beginning of the identities of the two people that Rhys and I were going to add to our family. It was the beginning of our unconditional love for these two beings that had not yet even fully began themselves.

Rhys lay next to me, and I twisted myself to face him. His face was glowing in the moonlight, as usual, and I swear that his dark hair attracts shadows when he sleeps. But it just contrasts more, and in my opinion, makes him even more beautiful. His heavy lids were already sliding shut, but just as he was just falling asleep, I scooched closer to him and took his limp hand and placed it on my belly. There was some slight nudges coming from inside.

"Feel that, Rhys?" I whispered into his ear as his eyes slid shut. "That's our beautiful warrior, and her dreamer of a brother with a nickname of kindness."

His breathing had already deepened into sleep, but I'm pretty sure the corners of his mouth twitched up just before he did.

Again, I hoped you like this, and please consider letting me know if you did in the comments or votes. I think I'm going to continue doing time jumps and just giving little snippets of the pregnancy for the next few chapters until we get to the birth, so yeah! That will be coming soon.

I'm so sorry I haven't updated recently. This week is my last week of school and it's been crazy!!! Check for an update on Friday.
