Cassian burst out laughing.
I shot a glare at him like really, Cassian? Are you really doing this right now?
"Feyre, I'm so sorry," he said through his laughter. "The twins are fine. I think I actually might be as stupid as you as say I am." At that, he looked half extremely amused and half horrified at what he had admitted.
"They're amazing, actually," said a deep voice next to me.
I turned to look at Rhys, whose eyes were bright with a sparkle that I decided was the most magical thing I had ever seen. But the magic disappeared after a quick second, and was replaced with a look of crushing guilt.
"Feyre, I'm so sorry that I wasn't here right when you woke up-"
I shut him off with a quick look that he knew clearly meant, stop being ridiculous.
The corners of his mouth quickly curled up in a smile.
"Can I see them?" I whispered.
"Of course," he whispered, kissing my forehead.
Before I knew what was happening, Mor entered the room, carrying two bundles in the crooks of both of her arms.
My heart was pounding in my chest, and I felt as if butterflies were surrounding me and lifting me up into the air as Mor handed me both bundles. A tear slid down her face as the whole room broke into applause, but I was looking down at the little magical beings in my arms.
Two brilliant faces looked up at me, with identical sparkling deep blue eyes. A perfect combination of my light blue ones and Rhys's dark purple ones. They both had smooth olive skin, and little noses and lips. They had fae ears, little ones that were pointy on the tops. They looked almost identical except for their hair. One had short whispy locks of hair as dark as night, and the other had locks of the purest white. She smiled up at me, the corners of her eyes crinkling, and as I looked at her in pure awe and love and fascination her hair faded into a peachy orange right under my eyes, and then a light pink.
I laughed, surprised, and she broke into an even bigger smile. In my other arm, her brother broke into a smile as well, and let out a little sound. It was a pleasant sound, light and it resonated deep inside my heart like bells. Shocked, I realized he had laughed.
How long was I out for? I asked Rhys through the bond.
Only a day, he replied. But he seemed to sense correctly that my concern came from the fact that our apparently newborn had laughed.
High fae, he reminded me.
Right, of course. Human babies don't laugh a day after their born, but neither does their hair change color. I laughed again. And in that moment, I knew that I shouldn't have worried so much. I knew that things were going to be difficult. That was just a fact. But I knew that for their happiness, and all of the happiness and love that they would bring me, it would all be worth it. Every day, it would be everything just to see her smile. To hear him laugh. And even more to laugh with them.
And so I whispered their names to them as tears found their way down my cheeks. I gazed down upon the face my daughter, whose hair was now a bright teal.
"Tassia Amor," I whispered to her. "My strong, beautiful, kind, daughter. I will love you always."
And then I turned my eyes to my son. "Rellian Caz," I whispered to him. My strong, beautiful, kind son. I will love you always.
I told you I would update soon! (: I hope you liked that chapter. I definitely loved writing it. As always, please consider commenting or voting to let me know! I'm so excited that the twins are born and that I can take this even further. It's going to be so much fun.
