ATHENA'S POV

I know where he is. but I really don't want to see her again. I spent the last sixteen years avoiding her. but Luke is family. and I will not let him get sucked into the ONE DIRECTION pack. I have to save him. I sigh and start running. not caring that the humans can see me. I am on a mission. I follow Luke's scent. it leads me to an abandoned looking apartment building. I slip inside a broken window and begin to follow his scent through hallways and up stairs. I hear talking in a room with a door spray painted with the word HAZZABEAR . I push the door open and see Rae, lying there. with luke. "ATHENA?!?!" Rae screams, sitting up quickly. "in the flesh." I say dryly. *alfa, this is my mate.* Luke thinks happily. suddenly in the midst of immense anger, I feel a pull, down the hallway. my feet seems to move without my will. I try to stop them but I cant. A boy steps in front of me. *mate* he whispers in his head. "n-no." I say, my voice wavering. "you can't mistake a mate love." the boy whispers aloud. "bullshit. luke mistook Violet as his mate for three years." I say, swallowing something in my throat. "then how do you explain the pull" he asks, raising an eyebrow. "pull? what pull?" I enquire, playing dumb. I force my feet to move backward, a dull pain shooting up my spine with each step. " you are my mate. and I am yours. unless you don't want to be. do you want me? it's ok if you don't. im used to not being wanted." he says sadly. "I don't" I say emotionlessly, a stabbing pain in my heart. "well that's all fine and dandy, but you are his mate whether you like it or not. and you can't leave" a voice says. the voice of an Alfa. *WAIT I'M ALFA.* I scream In my head. "not anymore, the moment Liam realized that you were his mate, you became part of our pack. and so did every other wolf under your control." the same curly-Haired boy says sternly. "HE. IS. NOT. MY. MATE" I scream and force my feet to run, I jump out of a window, shattering it into a million little pieces. the sun is rising. hundreds of little rainbows show up on the brick wall for the few seconds that I am airborne. I land on my feet and keep moving, my small bare feet pattering on the sidewalk. about a mile of sprinting later I stop to take a breather, I step into a gap between two buildings and press my back to a brick wall. I slide down slowly and bring my legs to my chest. I lay my head on my soft, slightly tanned knees. I silently wished for rain to hide my tears. *I never wanted a mate. I wanted to be me. forever. I didn't want to worry every second of my life about some guy that for some stupid wolfy reason is supposed to be mine. I am a strong, independent woman and I don't need this shit.* I closed my eyes and created a wonderland with two little blonde toddlers and a red-headed girl who is my best friend. I kept playing the scene, the girls aged quickly, becoming women. im suddenly painfully aware to the heaviness of my eyelids, the fatigue in my muscles. *god im tired. I haven't slept in days. I need to sleep. but where am i going to go? they'll be looking for me. I can't go back to my apartment, or any of my pack's places. im screwed.* I start crying harder, wishing Rae was here to comfort me, even for a vampire, she was the most humane person I had ever met. *honey, you need some sleep. don't worry, they can't hear us, special mate bond, oh crap. sorry. I meant best friend bond.**go away Liam, leave me alone.* * you need somewhere to stay, you can stay at my flat for a while if you want.* *I don't need your help, and you'll probably just rat me out anyway.* *babe. you need sleep. I'd never do anything to hurt you. I only want you happy, it's obvious you wouldn't be happy here, with me, so I won't force anything on you. just please let me assist you* he begs.
