My classes at Arizona State were fun,
But kept me on my feet.
My professors were encouraging
And I had food to eat.

My scholarship took care of my school fees
But I needed money to live.
I got a job at the campus library.
With school 3 hours was all that I could give.

I wasn't interested in having any kind of relationship with anyone
Until I saw her, sitting by a tree.
My first thoughts were
God help me.

She was sitting alone
Reading a book.
I couldn't see all of her face
So I wanted to take a better look.

I got too close and
She noticed me.
She was talking
But her beauty was all that I could see.

She had short black hair and full lips.
She had wondrous brown eyes
That defiantly had me
Tongue-tied.

I snapped out of it
And asked for her name.
Well, Rolanda after that
I would never be the same.

From that point on
Our friendship just grew.
At first I was nervous
Then I got used to you.

We would talk a lot
And explore the city.
You were an art major
Smart and witty.

After getting to know you better
I wanted to ask you out.
I hope you would say yes.
But I had my doubts.

You said yes
And I knew it would be the start of something great.
I thanked the heavens that I met you
It must have been fate.
