Graduation day came about
And we got our diplomas for all to see.
When the ceremony was finished
I planned to get down on one knee. When I asked if she would marry me
She was shocked beyond compare.
She said yes
With her face full of tears. At first I thought
She was going to say no.
If she did
I wouldn't know where to go.Several weeks before graduation
We rented a place.
For some reason it felt like home.
Wrapped in her warm embrace.Rolanda got a job at an art museum.
I got a job at a newspaper.
She would sometimes volunteer
She was no taker.During our busy lives
We planned the day we would wed.
We wanted it simple, short and sweet,
We really thought ahead.I barely had anyone to invite,
She had her parents and a couple friends.
I had my mother,
But I wasn't willing to make amends.I met her parents,
She met Mrs. Smith
Her parents surprisingly
Cared who she was with. One day,
Rolanda was late.
Kept calling her phone,
She was usually home around eight.Hours and hours passed
And I grew concerned.
I sat down and waited
For my call to be returned.Pretty soon I got a call alright.
Something that would change my life.
Five words.
"There has been an accident. "
