Chapter 14- "The Cell Phone."

At midnight, I was awoken from dreams by a noise. I had tried to ignore the disturbing noise and return to my deep slumber. But, the noise only grew on bearable. I quietly treaded downstairs to find a phone ringing. My eyes glanced at the shadow of the clock. It was five o'clock in the morning and the sun would soon rise.

But, who would call at this hour? It would be an invasion of trust to look through the house phone but I wasn't feeling that warm toward Aiden or Ace. They had lied to me and used my feelings as a game. They both had known how fragile my feelings were. I picked up the phone and I listened. The voice sounded muffled and the static on the other side of the line made it difficult to hear.

"Ace, are you there?"  A voice returned. Silence. I was too afraid to speak.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" The voice said. The voice sounded familiar but I couldn't place it.

"Yes. I'm sorry. Ace is asleep. I picked up his phone by accident." I said.

"Oh, that is okay honey. This is Darren. Do you remember me?" He asked.

Ace and Aiden had both warned me to stay away from Darren. If they caught me talking to him, they would be very angry. It made the phone all the more thrilling.

"I do." I said.

"Good. You should get out of that house, soon. Maybe, you could meet me for breakfast. Don't bring Ace or Aiden with you." Darren said.

It would have been so easy to say no.

"Where should I meet you?" I asked.

"You can meet me at my house and I'll cook you breakfast. Aiden learned how to cook from and I can make one hell of a meal. Grab a pen and I'll tell you the address."

I wrote Ace and Aiden a fake letter.

Hey boys, I stole Ace's car because I'm going to visit Lena. Lena has had another emotional break down. No surprise there, huh?

I must comfort her but I will be back by lunch.

With all my love, Sage

Three hours later, I found myself at Darren's house. He lived in a quiet, secluded town. The brick house was six stories high and had a beautiful balcony that over looked the mountains and the deep, blue sky. He had a few neighbors but over all, the neighborhood was very small.

I walked up toward the marble steps that led up to the front door. The garden was even more impressive. There are six willows tress that line the garden and the rose bushes glistened with ice and water. I lightly knocked on the door. The door swung open with a large thug. There was a dark smile in Darren's eyes. He lifted my hand up to his lips and kissed it. He reminded me of Ace but there was something very different about Darren.

"Hello, stranger." I said.

"Welcome into my home."  He said.

He released my hands from his grip. I walked into his house and he closed the door behind me. The ceilings were at least ten feet high, crystal chandeliers hung in every room, but the main attraction of the downstairs was the marble staircase. I placed my hand over the staircase. The marble felt so cool beneath my hands.
