Chapter 17-
The sun had risen among the dark sky. And, I stirred out my sleep and walked to the window in hopes that I would see Aiden out of the window. Aiden was nowhere to be found and my heart ached for him. Forget him, the voice in my head told me. But I couldn't forget that man when he already had a piece of my heart with him. I didn't sleep much because Aiden haunted my daydreams and my nightmares. Ace turned over on his hips and stretched his longs out. His arms were so long that they almost reached the top of the ceiling. The small room was made me feel trapped.
"Morning." Ace said.
His feet pounded as they hit the ground. He walked over to the window and draped his arms behind my waist.
"Are you thinking about my brother again?" He asked. I stared out the window and refused to answer him.
"I hate how much he has hurt you, Sage." Ace whispered,"I just want to make it better."
His fingers slid under my nightgown. We both wanted to same thing; to forget when or why things had spiraled out of control.
"Close the curtains." I said.
"You don't like being watched?" Ace asked.
"No." I said.
I was sure Ace thought the idea of being watched or being caught was thrilling!
He closed all of the shades and curtains in the entire room before he returned his attention back to me.
"Is that better?" He asked. I nodded. I walked into his arms and he pulled me tight to his chest.
"I love you, Sage. You know that, don't you?" He asked.
"I'm not sure I believe you." I said.
He looked angry but he tried to mask his anger with a forced smile.
"Why?"He asked.
"Because you haven't told me the truth." I said.
"And you don't need me to tell you the truth. You'll find out all on your own." He said.
He rested his head against my forehead and stared into my eyes until my body fell limp against his. He sighed, "I really miss your smile. It's not just your smile I miss, either. I miss seeing you happy. I feel like I've somehow taken away your happiness."
Ace rocked me in his arms until my heart finally returned to its normal pattern. Eventually, Ace became impatient. I turned around so that my back was facing him.
"You can unzip my dress if you want." I asked.
My body was too numb to feel and I wasn't sure what I really wanted. He quickly unzipped my dress and silk pooled at my feet. I kicked my dress to the side. The light of the room was dim and I was thankful that he couldn't see all of my scars.
