I sat up straight, glaring at the ringing phone. I'd been sitting undisturbed on my bed since I got home over six hours ago, and I had hoped that it would stay that way.
"Get your happy butt outside. Scott bailed on Allison and we're going to go do something fun with her. Jackson's coming too." Lydia informs me, hanging up without giving me the chance to decline her invitation. I roll my eyes, but grab my phone and a dagger. Slipping the dagger into my boot and my phone into my pocket, I hurry down the stairs and out the door. I raise an eyebrow at the Porsche parked there.
"It's a bit of a squeeze." Allison says softly before I climb in, practically sitting on her lap.
"Where the hell are we going?" I ask, any good mood from the last month gone. Lydia opens her mouth to speak when Allison's phone goes off.
"Is that him with the best explanation ever of why he's half a freaking hour late?" Lydia asks with a vicious smile. Allison shakes her head.
"Not exactly." She replies before showing us the text.
"Why is he at the school at nine o'clock at night?" I ask her, crossing my arms. She shrugs.
"I'm not sure, but could we meet him there?" Allison asks, a hopeful smile on her face. Jackson nods, while Lydia just bites her lip and looks out the window. I sigh, both in frustration and in empathy for Lydia. I watch as the houses go by, getting more space between them the closer we got to the school. I frowned as we pulled into the parking lot, something instantly feeling off.
"What're they doing here anyway?" Jackson asks, turning back to look at Allison. Allison shrugs.
"All I got was this." She replies, holding up her phone which still had the text displayed. Lydia looked back at us, a bored expression on her face.
"They lock the doors at night, you know?" She asks us, an eyebrow raised. Allison glances at the doors, before pointing to one of them.
"That one's open." She says, certainty in her voice. I groan and climb out of the car, letting her follow me while I have to swallow back the bad feeling again. Jackson also jumps out of the car, always having to get the last word.
"You don't need me to state the obvious, right?" He asks with a slight smirk. I roll my eyes.
"It's pretty obvious that they broke into the school, Whittemore." I reply, ignoring the glare he shoots my way.
"Do you want me to come with you?" He asks Allison, turning back to her. I raise an eyebrow, but don't say anything.
"It's okay." Allison says and I nod my head in agreement.
"Yeah, cause I'm going with her." I reply. Allison doesn't argue, most likely since she didn't hear me over the sexual tension between her and Jackass.
"Hey, Allison-" Jackson starts, an unreadable expression on his face.
"You have this look like you're about to say 'be careful'." Allison says with a smile.
"I am. What?" Jackson asks, the stupid look still on his face.
"That concerned look on you, I've never seen it before." Allison replies, an unreadable expression now on her face.
"Well I am concerned." Jackson says, his tone laced with fake.
"Well, that's a good look on you. Don't worry, we'll be right back." Allison says with a smile. I roll my eyes and walk next to her to the school, keeping my pace even with hers so that if she suddenly gets snatched I won't be clueless. Allison's confident stride falters as we walk farther into the school.
"Everything will be fine, I promise." I say with a tight smile. Allison nods and we continue to walk through the school, calling out Scott's name as we go. Eventually, we walk through the double doors to the pool. I glance around and sigh before her phone starts to ring.
"Hey. We can't find them. Okay, give us a second and we'll be right there." Allison answers, hanging up before turning to me with a frown. I open my mouth to give her a pep talk when her phone rings again. She glances at it and raises an eyebrow, showing me the caller ID, Stiles, before answering. "Stiles?" She says, confusion running through her.
"Why is he calling you?" I ask, she shakes her head and continues to listen to Stiles.
"I'm in the school looking for you. Why weren't you at my place?" Allison asks, her tone defensive. I raise an eyebrow, realizing that it was Scott and not Stiles. "On the first floor.....the swimming pools." Allison continues, shaking her head. "Okay okay we're coming." She hangs up, turning to me with a frown. "He said to go to the lobby." She explains and I nod. The call with Scott seemed to have invigorated her, and we practically sprinted all the way to the lobby.
"Why did you come? What are you doing here?" Scott asks, rushing towards Allison with concern all over his face. I feel my heart start to beat faster at the frightened look on both his and Stiles' face. I walk over to Stiles, ignoring the rest of their conversation.
"What the hell is going on? Why do you both look terrified?" I ask, going straight to the point.
"The alpha killed Derek and has been chasing us around the school." Stiles whispers and my eyes widen.
"Why have you not left?" I ask, shaking my head.
"He tore the battery out of my jeep." He replies with a sigh. I shake my head and go to respond when Lydia and Jackson strut into the lobby.
"Finally. Can we go now?" Lydia asks, narrowing her eyes at Scott. I start to answer, when the ceiling tiles start to move.
"Run." Scott yells, and they all start running towards the cafeteria. I reaI reach into my boot, ready to make a stand against the creature, when Stiles runs back and grabs my arm before pulling me away. I tug my hand away from his and run faster so that I can keep Allison in my line of sight. We run into the cafeteria and Scott immediately starts barricading the door.
"Help me get this in front of the door." Scott directs, and he and Jackson move the huge cooler in front of the door.
"Scott, wait not here." Stiles argues and I turn to him, before glancing behind him at the huge wall of floor to ceiling windows.
"What was that? Scott, what was that?" Allison asks, her voice laced with panic.
"What came out of the ceiling?" Lydia asks, her voice soft.
"Will you just help me? The chairs, stack the chairs." Scott demands as he starts shoving the chairs in front of the doors. I shake my head, sitting on top of one of the tables as I run through strategies in my head. My phone was in Jackson's car, so that took away any chance of contacting Sam and Dean for back up.
"Guys can we just wait a second? You guys, listen to me, w-Can we wait a second? Guys? Stiles talking. Can we hand on one second please?" Stiles rants, trying to get everybody's attention. I roll my eyes at his attempts and stand up on the table.
"HEY!" I yell, causing everyone to stop and look at me. I nod to Stiles before sitting back down on the table.
"Thanks. Okay, nice work. Really beautiful job everyone. Now what are we going to do about the 20 foot wall of windows?" Stiles asks, gesturing towards the glass wall. I frown as everyone's faces drop.
"Can somebody please explain to me what's going on, because I'm freaking out here. And I would like to know why. Scott?" Allison asks, turning to Scott with an expectant look on her face. I turn to Scott, who has conveniently frozen.
"Somebody killed the janitor." Stiles blurts out. I turn to him and shake my head before jumping off the table and standing between Allison and Lydia.
"What?" Lydia asks, her voice shrill.
"Yeah, the janitor's dead." Stiles confirms, scratching the back of his neck.
"What's he talking about? Is this a joke?" Allison asks, turning towards Scott.
"What, who killed him?" Jackson asks, as everyone starts to panic slightly.
"No, no, no, no. This was supposed to be over. The mountain lion-" Lydia starts, but Jackson cuts her off. Allison turns to me, her face pale. I nod once, knowing that she's thinking back to earlier when I told her that the creature from the movie store looked like La Bete in her book. I stepped closer to her, trying to comfort her without saying anything.
"What was it? What does it want?" Allison asks, turning to Scott with an odd look.
"I-I don't know. I-I just if, if we go out there, he's gonna kill us." Scott says grimly. I groan before glaring at him.
"Us? He's gonna kill us?" Lydia asks shrilly. I pat her back gently, trying to get her to calm down a little.
"Who? Who is it?" Allison challenges Scott, crossing her arms over her chest.
"It's Derek. It's Derek Hale." Scott rushes out. I resist the urge to facepalm.
"So, Derek killed the janitor?" I ask, speaking up for the first time. I had promised the Argents that I would protect Allison and if she thinks a person is after us, she's not going to be as likely to listen to me as she would be if she knew that the creature from her book was after us.
"Are you sure?" Allison asks, and in that moment I know that I have to tell her everything. The look on her face proved that she didn't believe a word that Scott was saying. Which was good for me, since I needed her to listen, but bad for her relationship with Scott.
"I saw him." He lies.
"The mountain li-" Lydia starts, unable to wrap her brain around it. She knew what she saw at the movie place, we all knew what we saw. Scott's lie was quickly unraveling.
"No, Derek killed them." Scott interrupts her.
"All of them?" Allison asks, her tone unbelieving.
"Yeah, starting with his own sister." Scott says, not sounding convincing at all.
"Does anyone have a phone?" I ask, interrupting what was sure to be an argument. Stiles nods and holds his phone out. I nod and take it, walking over and standing by the windows. I dial Dean's number, praying that he'd answer.
"Who is this?" Dean asks, the second he answers. I sigh in relief
"Dean, listen to me. Allison got a text from Scott to meet her at the school, and I came with because it sounded suspicious. We got here and couldn't find Scott. He called us with Stiles' phone and told us to meet him in the lobby. We did, and the alpha fell out of the ceiling. We're currently trapped in the cafeteria and all I have is a dagger and I know that my job is to protect Allison, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that without revealing everything to her and everyone else." I whisper into the phone. It's silent for a split second before he lets out a long breath.
"We're on our way, be careful and stay alive. Keep the kids with you alive, okay?" Dean asks before hanging up. I sigh and hand the phone back to Stiles, reaching into my boot and grabbing the dagger that I had shoved back down when we entered the cafeteria.
"I don't know!" Scott yells before Stiles pulls him to the side. I shake my head and stand between Allison and Lydia again, keeping a steady grip on the dagger.
"What the hell is that?" Jackson asks, his voice up an octave.
"It's a way to protect ourselves, cause I am not dying in this school." I reply easily, glancing at Allison who just nods easily.
"Yeah, I mean if one of us has a weapon then we need to use it." Allison says, taking my side. I shoot her a tight smile, keeping an eye on the door while Scott and Stiles continue to whisper to the side.
"Okay assheads, new plan. Stiles calls his useless dad and tells him to send someone with a gun and decent aim. Are we good with that?" Jackson suggests, stepping towards Scott and Stiles. Lydia nods slowly, while Stiles shakes his head no.
"He's right." Scott starts with a sigh, then he mumbles the rest. Stiles shakes his head again, whispering back to his best friend.
"All right, give me the phone." Jackson demands, reaching towards Stiles' pocket. Stiles-in a totally uncharacteristic move- pulls his arm back and bunches Jackson square in the face. Both Lydia and Allison freak out, rushing to Jackson's side.
"Jackson! Are you okay?" Allison asks worriedly. I glance over at Stiles who shakes his head before pulling his phone out.
"Dad, hey it's me. And it's your voicemail. Look, I need you to call me back now. Like, right now. We're at the school, dad we're at the school." Stiles says, hanging up as the alpha starts to bang against the door.
"Oh my god." Lydia says under her breath, a look of complete and total fear written on her face. I glance around, trying to find and escape route for them.
"The kitchen, the door out of the kitchen leads to the stairwell." Stiles says as he walks towards the kitchen.
"Which only goes up." Scott counters.
"Which is better than here, go now." I yell, and they all listen running towards the kitchen. I hesitate for a minute before following them towards the kitchen. Instead of going up with them, I rummage through the kitchen and grab all the knives that aren't completely dull. Using all my strength, I push the other milk cart in front of the door, hoping to slow the alpha down just a bit. Taking in a deep breath, I run up the stairs and towards the lobby, fingers crossed that Sam and Dean were on their way. As I run through one of the halls, a door flies open and I'm yanked inside. I react immediately, slashing one of the knives through the air.
"Tori!" Stiles yells, and I drop the knife. I glare at him.
"What the hell Stiles? I was trying to see if Sam and Dean were here, they said that they were going to call the police and they should be here by now." I complain, glaring at him. He shakes his head.
"It's way too dangerous out there." He argues and I scoff.
"I can handle it, thanks though." I argue, before walking over to Allison and Lydia. I raise an eyebrow at Allison's tear stained face.
"I thought that you had abandoned us, and Scott just left and I'm freaking out." Allison says shakily. I feel my scowl soften and I lean over and hug the girl.
"I'm sorry Ally. I'll tell you the truth soon, I promise." I whisper in her ear before pulling back. She raises an eyebrow, but I shake my head slightly. She sighs and goes back to biting her nails.
"Jackson, you handed me the sulfuric acid, right? It has to be the sulfuric acid. It won't ignite if it's not." Lydia says after a minute of silence. I raise an eyebrow.
"I gave you exactly what you asked for tonight." Jackson replies, his voice angry.
"Ok, why were we messing with sulfuric acid?" I ask in confusion.
"Lydia put together a molotov cocktail so that Scott had some type of defense." Allison replies. I nod and hop up on the lab table, swinging my legs back and forth. After a few minutes of silence, an earth shattering roar echoes throughout the school. Jackson screams and falls to the ground, clutching the back of his neck. I jump off the table and run over to him, grabbing his hand away from his neck. I go to touch the wounds, and he jerks away, glaring at me.
"I'm fine, seriously I'm okay." Jackson says. I go to argue with him, when Stiles' phone rings. I turn to him and he answers it, only saying hello before handing it to me.
"Hey." I answer, walking towards the back of the classroom.
"There are policemen on the way. Chris thought that it would be a bad idea to just storm in guns blazing. Are you guys okay?" Dean asks.
"Yeah, I think so. We're in Harris' class. Scott left though, and he hasn't come back yet." I reply, sitting on one of the tables in the back.
"Just watch over Allison, she's your job." Dean reminds me and I sigh.
"Yeah and a friend. Which is why I'm so good at this job." I say sarcastically. Dean huffs
"We're following the cops, we're almost to the school." Dean says before hanging up.
"Scott!" Allison yells, banging on the door. I rush towards her, hugging her as she starts to cry.
"Stop! Do you hear that?" Lydia asks, and I smile as the sound of the sirens ring throughout the classroom. I toss Stiles his phone back and pull Allison away from the door. Everything was-hopefully-going to be okay.
