Noah Maddox was an exceptionally strong man, he almost never let his emotions get the better of him, well, that was before his daughter was born. Before that moment he had only cried twice in his adult life, once when his Mother died and the other when he looked into his wife's crystal blue eyes after lifting her lacy veil at their wedding.
On this occasion however Noah knew he was going to cry, and as soon as his daughter was placed in his arms the tears flooded.
He wiped the blur from his emerald eyes on his sleeve before looking down at her. She took after him in so many ways, her button nose, her emerald eyes, her squarish ears, even the shape of her chin.
But although all of these obvious features she shared of his, he could see some of Lillie's there too, the biggest and most obvious of them was how petite she was, almost scarily so just like his wife, her eye shape was the same too, she had the same delicate feeling about her, like a fairy, or a flower.
The only break in the continuity was his daughters hair, instead of being brown like his own or white like his wife's, it was dusty purple like a... violet.
This wasn't the only strange thing about her hair, the other was that she had hair to begin with, not just stands or tufts like a normal new born but a whole lock of it just peeking through the snowy white blankets.
He smiled and held her against him, out the corner of his eyes he caught the time on the wall clock, 12:02, "good morning darling, welcome to the world," he whispered as a few more tears escaped from his eyes.
"welcome home."

Lillie Maddox lay in bed, she smiled, all the sicknesses she had as a child had convinced the doctor she would have a long and painful birth but somehow she had managed to go through it relatively relaxed and pain-free.
Even the worries that her daughter would grow up sickly like her vanished quickly after a small checkup, she had managed to birth the most beautiful and healthy baby, she had done that, and she was okay.
Possibly the worst part about it was when the nurse handed her the most beautiful thing she had ever seen in her life and she couldn't hear it cry, gurgle or make baby noises, through everything that had happened she had almost forgotten she was deaf... almost...
Lillie had been born months too early with several problems allowing her to get easily sick and leading to her losing her hearing at the age of 9.
It was one of the saddest moments of her life when she climbed up the stairs of her childhood home into her parents room and informed them she could no longer remember what they sounded like.

The Maddox family had no question of what to name their daughter even though no conversation about it was ever held.
Their daughter would be named Violet after her hair and most importantly after Noah's mother. Neither were sure if there was a coincidence between the two but it was more like a sign then anything... a sign from the heavens for Violet Ashley Maddox.

The few months passed quickly enough and the next thing the couple knew their wonderfull baby was learning how to become a wonderfull child.
Noah Maddox was an amazing artist and one night when he was sketching his wife as she read her favourite book she signed to him that he should have a go drawing Violet, "no Lillie, Violet would never sit still long enough to draw her," he argued but Violet toddled over to Him and climbed up on the sofa, "Pwease" she begged patting her Dads head.
