OLIVE SAT DOWN BESIDE KEVIN who had called her over to where she was sitting with kevin, archie and a girl she had never met before. archie then started speaking to the girl with black hair, who olive assumed was new.

❝so how's your first day going? good?❞

the new girl shifted in her seat, to a more comfortable position, before answering his question. she sighed and then started speaking.

❝not to be a complete narcissist, but i thought people would be more-❞

before she could finish kevin cut her off.

❝obsessed with you?❞ he said. olive rolled her eyes, not really interested in the new girl. all she wanted to do right now was go home, slip under the covers of her bed and sleep.

❝any other year you'd be trending number one for sure, this year though it's all about cheryl trying to win the best supporting psycho oscar for her role as riverdale high's bereaved red widdow❞ stated kevin, olive couldn't help but laugh a little.

looking up from her tray of food, she noticed archie looking a little anxious as he looked behind her. she got curious and looked back, only to find cheryl blossom walking full speed towards their table.

❝hey i should go. i got that meeting with miss hrundy, then football tryouts❞

stated archie, getting up from his seat while grabbing his food tray. olive was trying to come up with an excuse to leave, as she certainly did not want to be stuck with cheryl. everyone knew that wouldn't go well.

❝you play football too? what don't you do?❞ exclaimed the new girl. olive also stood up and grabbed her stuff, she looked at her friends.

❝yeah, i need to go too, i'm supposed to talk to principal weatherbee about something❞ she said before bolting away from the lunch tables.

but olive wasn't really going to see weatherbee, she just wanted to avoid cheryl like she had been for the past few years. in middle school, when olive first moved to riverdale, cheryl was one of the first friends she made. but when cheryl started being bitchy and picking on another one of her close friends, which unfortunately was jughead, she distanced herself.

cheryl was beyond pissed, i mean who wouldn't be after being abandoned by a friend you considered close, besides now she could kind of understand the red head. olive could tell by the dirty looks and mean comments that came from her that cheryl had a strong dislike for her now.

--

after school, olive went to watch the cheer tryouts as she promised betty she would go for moral support. olive had thought of trying out before, but was scared of cheryl judging and making nasty comments as she had been for the last half an hour.

she had talked about trying out for cheer with jughead and archie but the two weren't very supportive of the idea, scared that she might become popular and ditch them. immediately after, olive dropped the idea.

after a few people had tried out, it was finally betty and veronica's turn. she had learned the new girl's name from betty afew hours prior to the tryouts. olive had to admit, veronica was gorgeous but however she hadn't left a great impression on her after making that sort of narcistic comment during lunch.

they performed their routine and olive clapped as it came to an end, impressed by the two and the routine they had managed to put together in such a short amout of time. but that didn't seem like it seeing cheryl's reaction.

❝hmm. ladies where's the heat? where's the sizzle?❞ she questioned, clearly unimpressed. olive rolled her eyes at cheryl's comment, she didn't understand why she had to be so rude and mean. maybe it had to do with the fact that olive had left her alone. or maybe it was just cheryl revealing her true colors.

❝well you haven't seen our big finish yet.❞ veronica responded as she looked over at betty who simply stood there, seemingly uncomfortable.

veronica started to grab betty's arm and pull her closer as she whispered something to her. betty looked more than confused, not having a clue what veronica was doing. and olive had to admit, what happened next was far from what she expected.

her jaw dropped as soon as veronica's lips touched betty's. olive didn't really know what was going on, she didn't understand if that kiss was genuine or not, and if it wasn't then why did it need to happen? olive knew that cheryl would be far from impressed, if anything the two had probably just ruined their chances for good.

❝check your sell-by date ladies, faux lesbian kissing hasn't been taboo since 1994. so let's see if you do better with the interview portion of your audition.❞

olive had been right, cheryl wasn't impressed. but when olive had heard the red head mention the interview section she knew this wouldn't be good. and if anything, olive didn't want to there while it happened. so before cheryl could start her 'intetview', olive had already grabbed her bag and was heading out the gymnasium doors.

but as she exited the doors she felt a body come in contact with hers, in a very abrupt way. and the next you know pages of paper flew all of over the school hallway. olive wasn't surprised since she was a pretty clumsy person, she always had been.

olive looked up and saw the one and only jughead jones looking back at her. immediately she appologised and started picking up the scattered pieces of paper from the floor.

❝oh god jughead i'm so sorry i didn't see you on my way out.❞

the boy said nothing in response, instead also picked up the pages off the floor. when they were all succesfully piled up into olive's hand she stood up and handed them over to jughead. he thanked her and they stood their for a few seconds, causing a short yet very awkward moment. until jughead broke it.

❝so, cheerleading?❞

he questioned as he noticed she had just walked out of the gymnasium where tryouts were taking place. olive smiled.

❝uh actually no, not me i just went to watch betty and veronica❞

he brow cocked up and a look a confusion took over his face.

❝veronica?❞

olive responded with 'new girl' and it was enough for jughead to understand. the short conversation ended, but this time there was no awkward silence following it.

❝it's been a while right?❞

the brunette smiled and nodded her head. right, since archie bailed on their 4th of july roadtrip none of them had spoken. not even archie and jughead.

❝yeah, we should catch up sometime❞

the boy nodded as a response, he seemed genuinely happy about the suggestion olive had made.

maybe this was their chance at rekindling the friendship they once shared.
