All eyes were staring at me.
Some were excited, but some were also terrified. Tensions are all around the stadium. I felt it. I sensed it.
So, I decided to just make a light start to drag the nerves down.I began to spoke lightly, and humurously..
"This is too much for an opening, but I guess, I'll try to be a Math Wiz and I hope that my Algebra teacher will be proud after the opening parts of this speech..."
I heard some who laughed on that lame joke of mine. I'm glad that I have some sort of sense of humor.
Now, the nervousness of the members of the faculty who saw me crumpled and threw away that prepared speech for mine, were now somehow .. reassured. Reassured, in a sense that I will not talk some crappy things in front of all my fellow graduates and parents of the students.
I continued my speech in a light and humurous tone. I am now confident that somehow, I got the attention of all the people now with my humurous light start.
So, I continued:
"Well, our parents always told us this.. 'You need 8 hours of sleep a day'.
Right?
But, that's 1/3 of our 24 hours, and also 1/3 of our life. So one third of our life is for resting and sleeping.
Well, that's a lot of math, I guess. But please do understand.
The average life span nowadays, well, according to reaserch, is 60 years old.
1/3 of 60 is 20, subtract it to your 60 years, you have remaining 40 years to live the life you want to do:
Your dreams, your future, your wishes and your fantasies.
But, here's another dilemma: even your company requires you to work 1/3 of your life for them. Another 8 hours of your day, and another 20 years of your life. You know that, don't you?
So, I guess, that's another 20 years, subtract it from your remaining 40, then you have 20 years remaining in your life.
But still you spent hours in movies and cinema, music and melodies, travels and leisure, studies and crafts, stupidity and craps, laughs and gags, so, lets subtract again, 10 years from your life.
Now, you begin to tremble. You only have 10 years to live..
10 years to plan wisely everything about the future without being preoccupied with anything.
That's a too much for an opening I guess. But that is the truth, and here is the question that lies on that truth, What is the purpose of our life?Well.. For me.. This is what I believe.
But let me do some introduction after that introduction..I have memories of my dead folks who died in behalf of this country. Though dead, but they are alive in my heart, burning like ember..
Sometimes its like a grimful November and sometimes its a blissful December.
But I have no regrets today, nor sorrow, for I believe in the word "tomorrow".They have dreams for me, and I have mine, and I believe you have yours too.
'We do not sleep to have dreams, we wake up to make it come true.'
We tend to fight not to surrender, no matter how difficult it is, no matter how hard it is, no matter how dreadful it is. We must always say, 'No retreat, No surrender.'
This is a short life, a very brief journey. But I also believe that the path bestowed upon us is far too long and far too tedious. So, as we had always heard, 'make the best out of it', so then, live as if we are dying tomorrow - but always in a good sense.
And here, I will conclude:
This life have been bestowed to us for the purpose of using it for the best, and not wasting it for the worst.
Again, use this life for the BEST, and don't waste it for the WORST.
Good afternoon to all, Thank you so much.."
I bowed, and slowly gaze upon my listeners.
There was a deafening silence all around the stadium..
Then I heard a clap from a man on the last row and he was standing, smiling at me.
Then all of the people rose up and gave me once again, a standing ovation.
For the very first time, once again, I felt the euphoric feeling that somehow, I have expressed myself and I knew somebody had listened on the things that I have said.I guess, my speech was not that bad for a first timer..
It will be all treasured memories for me..
