Thanks so much for 2.6k reads on The Mask!
Jade's POV:
"There," I sat back from the kitchen table, exhausted. I had just poured my heart out into a letter to Perrie, and it had taken over an hour. My mom wasn't home, and I had already written her a loving goodbye letter.
I took a moment to remember my mom, and I wanted to have the best memory I could have.
Earlier that day:
"Bye honey, off to work!" My mom called. I jumped up from my bed, and ran out to my mom. "Bye mom!" I clung onto her like I would never let go. "Just remember I will always love you mom, and it's not your fault."
"Jade, what are you talking about?" My mom said. I gave her a fake cheerful grin. "Never mind." My mom regarded me suspiciously. "Alright," she kissed my head, and walked out the door. "I love you!" I called after her retreating figure, and closed the door, sighing.
I ran outside, not bothering to grab a coat. It dosen't matter, I won't feel the cold again after tonight. I arrived at Perrie's front door. I set the letter down on the welcome mat, knocked on the door, and sprinted into the woods next to the front of her house.
I saw Perrie herself come outside of her house, and look around, then spot the letter at her feet. I saw her pick it up, then I took off again. Where's the nearest bridge? I thought.
Perrie's POV:
"I'll get the door!" I shouted. I sprinted to the door, and opened it. I looked around in confusion. Did I just get ding dong ditched? I looked down, and spotted a letter at my feet, addressed "To Perrie". I picked it up, and went back inside.
"Who was it?" My dad asked. "No one, just a letter," I said, realizing I sounded stupid. "Never mind," I said, and ran upstairs. I sank down on my bed, opened the letter, and began to read.
Dear Perrie,
Hi, it's me, Jade. You probably want nothing to do with me, but that's okay. I needed to tell you this. Ever since the first time I laid eyes on you, way back on the first day of school, I fell in love with you. You're perfect. I am nothing more than a friend to you, I know, but I had to get these feelings off my chest. I only started dating Niall because I honestly believed that I would learn to love him, and lose my feelings for you. While my feelings for Niall have grown, my love for you has grown also. I ignored you and was rude to you, and I am sorry. I am too stupid to fix this mess I have made of our friendship, and too worthless for you even to remember me. Perrie, I have a secret. I am going to die tonight. I know this, because it will be by my own hand, or however you say that old saying. By the time you have read this, though, it will be too late to save me. My time is up on this earth. I have accepted the fact that I was not destined to live a long life. Please know that this is my choice, and it is not your fault in any way. Goodbye, Perrie. I will always love you.
Yours' forever,
Jade
The letter fell from my hands, and slowly drifted to the floor. "Jade, no," I whispered. I sprinted down the stairs, and into the kitchen. "Dad!" I screamed. "Honey, what is it?" My father came over. obviously concerned.
"M-my friend Jade left me that letter. She's going to commit suicide tonight, we need to find her before it's too late!" I said, voice steadily rising with each word. I was in full panic mode. "Oh my! Alright, let me call her mother, and we can all search for her," my father ran over to the phone, and dialed Jade's number.
"How do you know that number?" I asked. "I looked up the Thirlwall family, to make sure my special daughter was hanging around safe people," my father said as the phone was ringing. "Hello, is this Mrs. Thirlwall?" My father said. "Alright, hello. I am calling regarding your daughter, Jade..."
Five minutes later, I was running through the woods. "Jade! JADE! Please answer me!" I yelled frantically into the night. I could hear sirens as well, because the police had been notified as well of Jade's possible suicide attempt.
Finally, I could see a break in the trees. I saw a fast-moving river, and a figure perched on the edge, hunched over. I moved closer cautiously. It was Jade! "Jade!" I called, running over. Jade turned to look at me. "Perrie!" Jade called. "St-tay away!"
I noticed she wasn't wearing a coat. "Why are you doing this?" I asked. "Because I don't deserve to live! I don't belong in this world!" Jade screamed, her voice hysterical. "Please don't do this," I pleaded. "I have no choice Perrie, I am broken beyond repair," Jade then turned.
"NO!" I screamed as Jade jumped. I ran to the bridge, just in time to watch her body plummet towards the ground. Jade's body hit the soft grass next to the river, and I swear you could hear my heart hit the ground beside her.
"Jade!" I ran down towards her body, splayed out on the grass. "No," I whispered, dropping beside her. I scooped her up in my arms, and cradled her limp body against me. "You can't go," I sobbed. "I love you."
I saw my tears falling on Jade's face, making it look like she was crying as well. I pulled her body closer to me, and felt her warm breath hit my cheek. Jade was alive! "Thank you," I whispered, "for not leaving me."
I heard sirens behind us. I turned around, Jade's body still in my arms. Medics rushed towards me, lugging a stretcher behind them. They took Jade's body from me, and they laid her on the stretcher.
"Can't I come with her?" I pleaded, tears rolling down my face, as they loaded Jade into an ambulance. "I'm afraid you can't, you aren't in direct relation," The paramedic said. "I'm sorry." I nodded, and turned away from the ambulance.
"Perrie!" My father came running towards me, and instantly enveloped my shaking body in a hug. I cried against his shirt. "I-I should h-have run over to her, and st-toped her from jumping, I-I should have g-grabbed her," I hiccuped.
"Ssh, there was nothing more you could have done," My father soothed me. "Now it's up to the paramedics to bring Jade back." I sobbed louder. "B-but you don't understand."
"What don't I understand, Perrie?" My father asked. "I love her." I cried.
Wow. I did not mean to write something that sad. Sorry. Anyways, thanks so much for reading! Love you!
