I didn't like how close it was.
The arrow almost through my hand.
But when I saw you against the sun.
Something drew me closer, something made me want to know more.
Your the reason why I didn't give up on her.
Even if the chances of her surviving were almost nill.
I press my stomach against the cold concrete of the roof of the slanting building. I pull a grenade out of my pocket just in case the guards spot me. My binoculars have proved useful investment, even though I picked them of a dead body. The guards get in their tank and slowly move on, the wheels making it easy to get through the rubble they turned Sydney into two years ago. I had been on the run from the military recently. I had lost the Hungers and Fireflies, and most of the Government were dead now, but the military would not give up.
I slowly got up making sure there weren't any other tanks around. Shouts came from a few blocks over. I dropped to the ground again not wanting to be seen. The shouts got louder and louder. I pulled my bow from my belt and aimed it at where the noise was coming from. To men appeared a street away from my hideout
"Please hold you fire!" A young boy shouted while holding a young child in one arm and a rifle in the other.
"We can't take any risks!" An lone guard replied back.
All was quiet before I heard a gun shot. "Don't make me do it." The young boy said about to pull the trigger again. Another gun shot was fired that shook a nearby building, followed by a piercing scream. The guard fell to the floor, a fatal gun wound to his head, spilling out blood.
I slowly stood up, climbing down a ladder I set up to the tenth floor. I planted my feet on the ground and looked towards the pile of ruined blankets in the corner. I slowly walked over to them. I looked at her perfect face. Sophie. I had been travelling with her to the safe zone, a few weeks back, before we were ambushed b a group of Hungers. I had escaped with minor wounds, but she had been shot in the stomach. I had tried to stitch and bandaged her up the best I could, but it was hard finding antibiotics in a ruined city. I grabbed the sniper rifle beside her bed and loaded it up, before climbing onto the roof again.
The young boy was now searching the guards body for anything useful. He pulled out a radio transmitter from the guards pocket. I pulled back my bow. I wasn't aiming for him, I was aiming for the radio. I let go of the string, sending the arrow flying through the air, hitting my target right on, just missing the boys hand. He dropped the radio.
"Who's there?" he yelled looking up at the buildings.
"Over here,"I replied "I mean you no harm."
He help up his rifle facing towards the building.
"Put the rifle down," I yelled "I promise I won't hurt you."
"How do I know I can trust you?" He yelled.
"Because if I wanted to kill you, I would have let you take that radio." I answered "The military use them to find out when and where one of their soldiers have died," "But now it will take them longer to find you." I said finally.
There were a few seconds of silence followed by the clanking of a rifle hitting the floor. "There happy." He yelled.
"And the shotgun too." I replied
"I don't have a shotgun." He lied
"Yes you do," I said back "I can hear you loading it."
"Fine, fine." He said. I heard the clanking of a shot gun hitting the floor
