I knew what you were thinking.
Was it mine.
I was thinking the same thing to.
But if it was mine, how.
When Sophie can finally stand I take her back to the car and put her in the back. I set Luks up on her lap and Luks soon falls asleep. I do one final sweep of the store and fill up the car with some petrol. I slide into the drivers seat and grip onto the wheel. I grip on as tightly as I can then release, exhaling loudly.
"Right?" Asks Rory.
"Grand." I relpy refusing to make eye contact with him.
I pull out of the driveway and onto the street. I turn the music on softly and hum along. It's the only thing I can do to fill the awkward and eerie silence that surrounds us. I wind down the windows and the breeze blows in my golden hair. Soon my mind drifts away and there is only me and the road. Sophie's voice snaps me back to reality.
"I'm sorry." She says softly.
"I would say it's not your fault, but then I'd by lying, right?" I ask.
"Yes." She says hanging her head
"Okay I'm gonna come out with this all at once, is it mine?" Rory asks warily.
"No." She says with a little laugh. "I would never be able to drug you and Arrow enough to, well, you know."
"So who's is it?" I ask.
"When you were away I told Luks I had to go on a little journey to find some things." She starts. "On the way I found my old boyfriend and he invited me to stay the night." She pauses to catch her breath. "Things got pretty heated from then on." She sighs. "In the morning I said I had to go but he wouldn't let me." She hangs her head. "So I pulled out a gun and killed him."
"You can kill me if you want." Sophie sighs. "A gun to to the head would be an easier way to go then giving birth to a child."
"Not gonna happen." I say. "You got yourself into this mess, you are having this child."
"How." She says her voice getting louder.
"I don't know." I sigh. "But you have to take these," I pull out some pills from the glove box, "twice a day, and keep eating and no achol."
"But I need to know if this baby is going to live." She says.
"My friend were going to see used to be a doctor." I start. "He has an ultrasound system set up he used to check up on his wife's baby before she died in childbirth."
"Can't he just kill it if he's a doctor?" She asks.
"No, you are having this child." I say bluntly. "This baby may be a blessing in disguise, I'm not just giving up a life when they are so hard to come by these days." I reply.
"Arrow, have you ever thought that they're hard to come by because we're in a apocalypse." She say raising her voice.
"Yes of course I have thought that, but we are not wasting a perfectly good life." I say raising my voice.
"Why because you think maybe you can save the world and this kid can live a normal life." She yells. "Wake up Arrow, you can't just save the world."
"Well I'll die trying Sophie, whether you like or not." I yell.
"Well I don't like it, and sometimes I wish you had just left me to die then I wouldn't have to deal with your stubborn, pessimistic, difficult attitude." She's screaming now and Luks is awake cowering in the corner.
I don't say anything. Words can hurt more the punches sometimes. The whole car is silent expect for Rory's heavy breathing.
"Sorry." Sophie whispers, realizing she may have gone to far.
"How come your always right." I say, before fixing my eyes on the road, which is where they stay until we turn off the highway and onto the long dirt road.
"So how did you come to meet this friend of yours." Rory asks, as we pass broken barbed wire fences.
"He took my parents and I in before we set out on our journey." I replied.
"I he cute." Sophie says, making Rory and I laugh. "What if I'm gonna have a kid I'd like it to have a father." She rebuts.
"He's forty five, me him five years ago and he saved my life." I say.
"Ohh, well that blows cheese." She says.
"Cheese?" Rory questions.
"Yes cheese, why not cheese, would you rather it blow cows or even better shit." I say.
"No swearing in front of the children." Sophie says, covering Luk's ears.
"Oh please, Rory used to swear all the time." Luks replies.
"Wowww, good role model you are." I say shooting Rory a questioning glance. He rolls his eyes and looks out the window.
"That his place." Rory asks, pointing to the buildings coming into view on the horizon.
"Yep."
We pull up outside the gate and I get out taking my pistol with me. Rory goes to get out.
"Stay inside." I say. "If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer, if I'm not back in an hour, get out."
I walk up to the gate that has a high five wired fence topped with barbed wire around it. There is another fence on the inside of the outer one. I look further inside and see a house with a windmill, some water tanks, a store house and a solid steel bunker. Ashentee. Once a peaceful little farm now almost looks like a concentration camp. I press on the small radio stuck on the side of the fence. The hum of electricity makes me look around. The fence must be an electric one.
"State you name and business." Comes a voice from the radio.
"My name is Arrow Clarke, and I'm here looking for Jeff to take me and my friends in for a while." I say.
"Arrow is it you." Jeff asks.
"I was sent here to protect the people and reverse what damage has been done." I say, repeating the words he had taught me, with my hand over my heart.
"Well bring your friends in, I unlock the door." Jeff says.
I walk back to the car and get the others. We pack up our bags and I tap the car of fuel so if anyone tries to steal it they can't.

A/N
This chapter isn't finished but I'm going to Madagascar for three weeks, so I decided half a chapter is better than nothing. I will write when I get back (if I get back alive). I haven't had time to edit this fully so suck it up.
