Before we start, let's get one thing straight. I'm not a loving guy. At the age of 2, I was abandoned in a forest by my mother, and found by my adoptive mother, Lupa Wolf.
She's a tough woman, but it's helped me get through my life so far. I was raised with a mix of strictness and kindness.
Great. We got that out of the way.
I'm starting junior year at Goode high school, and I'm honestly excited. As I entered the building, I noticed a small Latino kid with curly brown hair was running down the hall with the infamous Stoll twins, with someone I didn't know (I think his name was Sherman) chasing them down the halls.
I ignored this and headed down to my history class.
As I entered the classroom, I noticed that almost every boy in the room was staring at one girl, yet no one was sitting next to her.
I sat down next to her. The seat next to her was the only one open. As I sat, I realized this girl was really pretty.
Like, more than the average girl pretty. This girl was out of this world beautiful.
A knockout.
She had long chocolate brown hair in a choppy braid running down her back, her skin was dark like a Native American or Cherokee, and I couldn't decide the colour of her eyes. One second they were blue, the next they were brown, then green, then blue again.
'Kaleidoscope.' I decided. I was pretty sure that was the right term.
She was wearing a red ski-jacket, a purple tank top, ripped acid washed jeans, and beat up black sneakers.
I was starting to realize why everyone was staring.
I gave her a small wave. She stared at me, with boredom on her face and in her eyes. I opened my mouth to introduce myself, but she instantly cut me off.
"Don't get any ideas. I'm engaged." She snapped. Surprised, I moved away from her, slightly. She got a sad look in her eyes before it quickly returned to the bored stare.
I don't believe in all the soulmate stuff, or love, I guess. It's hard to love when your mom abandons you at the age of 2.
"I wasn't going to ask you out." I said, calmly. She stared at me in surprise. "I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jason."
"No last name?" She asked. I flinched slightly. That was a bit personal. She seemed to realize that as she looked down at her knees. "I don't use it." I lied.
I silently told myself I wouldn't tell her that I didn't even know my actual last name. Using my adopted name didn't really help either.
"Sorry," she apologized, "I don't use mine either. I'm Piper." She added. We shook hands and I smiled at her.
I couldn't help but feel different around Piper. She wasn't like other girls, who, as I noticed, were staring at me. She was doodling on a piece of paper with a pencil the whole lesson.
As the teacher, Mr. Darvis, droned on about world war 2, I couldn't help but think of the conversation I had had with Piper. 'Don't get any ideas, I'm engaged.' I repeated in my mind.
Without meaning to, I rolled up my sleeve, and checked my forearm. There, the words smacked me in the face.
Don't get any ideas. I'm engaged.
I gawked silently. I looked to my left wrist.
P.M
The P could stand for Piper, but to be sure, I'm going to have to learn her last name. And I'm not going to push her into it. Hopefully, as we become friends, she'll tell me.
I'm not quick sure how I feel about all this. They aren't exactly common first words, so Piper being my soulmate is a high possibility.
Again, I'm not sure how I feel about this.
I don't love easy.
