Epilogue

Sitting at the dining table, Seth shoveled a spoonful of oatmeal into his mouth as he flipped the newspaper over. The headline on the front page caught his eye and he paused. Suddenly, the oatmeal was bitter in his mouth and all he wanted to do was spit it out. RENOWNED SCIENTIST AND FOUNDER OF BIOPHARM MURDERED

Yes, he had known that the newspaper was going to publish an article about this issue, as they had asked him for a statement or anything they could quote. He had declined, of course, saying that he needed time to recover from his mentor's tragic death. However, the sight of those words, in that horrible block font that the newspaper used, still managed to stun him for a second. It somehow made it realer, proved that the happenings of the night before had not been a mere nightmare.

It was true now, he had to accept it. Dr. Valin was dead and gone. Seth was alone again, just like he had been before his mentor had found him on the streets, with no one to take care of him, no one that actually gave a damn about him. Except that now he truly felt the loss of a loved one. Because Dr. Valin had essentially raised him, taught Seth everything he knew, and for that, Seth considered him family. Even though he was gone, killed by the one he loved so much, he had still left his legacy behind. Lumiere Biopharm was now Seth's. His goals and aspirations were now Seth's. Everything that he had owned was now Seth's–except for a portion of his wealth, that would remain locked away until Seth and that girl got married. Dr. Valin had had his heart set on this union and it was all he ever talked about the minute she arrived at the facility. Seth could understand what he meant. They would be perfect together. The only two currently living people that had been injected with the serum, united in marriage. Alone, they were already extremely powerful, but put together, they could rule the world.

Dr. Valin had put his life and soul into his work. The serum was his ultimate creation, something that he had worked so hard towards for the entirety of his life. Seth knew that what he had done was correct. Deaths had been caused in the process of this endeavor, but nevertheless, sacrifices had to made in order to create genius. The serum Dr. Valin had concocted would save humankind in the long run and even in the short term it would improve their living substantially. He was a hero, but now he was gone, though Seth would make sure that he would be remembered for such a contribution.

He knew that Dr. Valin's last wish was to see Seth and Emyle married and bearing children. The child would be a prodigy, talented at everything he did, because with twice the amount of serum pumping through his veins, everything about him would be enhanced, better than anything Seth or Emyle could be. Besides the fact that his mentor had wanted them together, Emyle was beautiful. Seth would be happy to have her at his side. Her beauty was ethereal, all pale and elegant angles and deep black eyes, rather than the commoner blond hair and blue eyes Seth saw around the facility. It had been a long time since he had seen an interesting brunette, apart from himself and Dr. Valin. Emyle was enchanting, he had to admit, and he would enjoy claiming her as his.

Of course, it was a little strange to be together with the one that had shot his only loved one several times, but Seth knew that it was not her fault. She had been fighting to save the one she loved and, considering the fact that he knew the lengths one would go to keep family safe, he could not blame her. However, he could blame someone else. That Ripley boy had been the real cause of everything that had gone wrong. He had insulted his mentor. Ungrateful brat, Seth thought angrily. Dr. Valin had had enough compassion in his heart to take Ripley in, just like he had done so with Seth. He had no idea what his motive had been, but it must have been a good intention. But Ripley provoked Dr. Valin on purpose, that was for certain, and caused him to lose his temper suddenly. Emyle's father had been the one to receive the brunt of Dr. Valin's frustration and Emyle had opened fire to protect him. It had been too late, though. Both men were dead by the end of the fight, and Emyle had fled with Ripley, leaving Seth with a broken nose and grieving for his beloved mentor.
