Chapter Five: Disorientated

I wake up half an hour before my alarm was due to go off feeling equal parts nervousness and excitement. I have come up with a game plan, I will stick by Raina's side avoiding the males of this town who seem to be going out of their way to make it pretty obvious they either have an issue with me for no apparent reason or worse yet seem to be compulsive liars. I don't need drama here, I just need to make it through this year and then the four university years so I can go back home. Even if it isn't to the church itself in the end. By the time I am finally ready I am almost running late and would be if it wasn't for waking up early. My hair is back in its usual fishtails, my makeup is lightly done and I am wearing a pastel fairy top, light grey jeans and my favourite light pink boots. I look over myself once more before leaving thinking about how people don't stare at me like the oddity I am here, maybe there is a positive after all.

I had agreed to meet Raina down in the lobby at nine and much to my surprise she is actually ready on time, I know I don't know her that well yet but I can just tell that this isn't always going to be the way that it works for us. When we said our hellos and commented on how lovely we were both looking today we set off in the direction of the Academy. I thought about telling her about yesterday's events on the way but every time I opened my mouth to speak I changed my mind again, I didn't want to lose my only friend when she realises just how crazy I am. So instead we talked about general things; hobbies we both have, movies and books, everything and anything was covered and we do actually have quite a lot in common with each other which we both did a little happy dance over.

By the time we reached the Academy I felt like we were well and truly late due to the sheer number of students that were already there but after I double checked the time on my phone and we still had several minute to spare I let my worries go. There were at least one hundred other students making their way out to the large oval where a small podium had been set up. Raina and I joined in with the other students making our way over to where we assumed the morning meet and greet would be taking place. I spot Forrest heading in our direction but I quickly take evasive action by moving further into the crowd making sure they wrapped around us like a thick blanket.

Somehow Rain and I manage to make it to the front of the crowed I think we may have been let through to the front intentionally yet subtly. I look around taking note the only others around are all male as I was told to expect until a tall tanned girl my age also makes her way through the parting crowd towards the podium. To say she is beautiful would be an understatement; her long black hair in a plat that hangs down to the bottom of her back, her round face and rich brown almond shaped eyes giving her the look of someone who has a lot of Native American ancestry. Her beauty is only overshadowed by the strength in her gaze, her dominant posture warning any who may think to take her on as an adversary. She turns and locks that predatory gaze on Raina and myself and she begins to make her way over, when she comes to stand next to me I realise that she is at least an entire foot taller than myself.

"Hi I'm Raina, you can call me Rain if you would prefer and this is Sybilla but I call her Illa."

Raina took the lead on this one and for that I am grateful, the other girl's gaze does not seem as defensive and harsh around us though. Maybe she has had some issues with the boys here as well.

"Hi I am Asha and I am glad that I'm not the only girl here. I only made it in late last night was kind of freaking out over the number of boys."

She glances around nervously again keeping a large distance between herself and any of the males and I realise the problem might stem from more than just the boys here. It must have just clicked with Raina as well and we subtly change our positions so that there is one to either side.
