Kaneki was slowly carrying Hide through the body pile, walking away from Touka as if she was nothing. He looked young and boyish, almost child like, with his flat expression having lost his mask. He moved directly towards the CCG camp, where their last few soldiers stood. He walked past a few with no concern, focused solely on his destination. Kaneki suddenly stopped in his tracks, now face to face with the one person that could have stopped him in this moment. His face dropped a little, his small smile fading. His expression hardened and his brow frowned, he wasn't sure if he was angry or not, but he knew that this was no time for this.

You stood before him, holding his mask in your hands while wearing your own. You kept your hood up as you looked down at the half skull and eye patch, thinking back to when he first donned it. "Wonder weather we're having, snows sticking nicely. If it keeps up you should be able to do sledging, make a snow man or two as well as form some snow angels." You told him casually, as if everything was normal. "I always loved the snow, my mam would get me up at five in the morning to go sledging before it melted by the time school finished. It didn't matter she'd have to work that day, she did it selflessly. That was my mother for you, selfless."

Kaneki just continued to stare at you, not saying a word. You seemed to have touched a nerve talking about your selfless mother, seeing how his mother died when he was young. "I still think of her, still talk to her. Hinami doesn't like to think of it, so I make sure she's in bed by the time I grieve. I never blamed you for what happened, I could understand your hesitation. I was understanding of your decision to protect Hinami, greatful even, but now?"

You sighed heavily, looking up Kaneki for the first time in what felt like a lifetime. Your eyes were empty, your emotions boiling beneath the surface. Like Kaneki you didn't know how to feel exactly yet, but you were knew what you were here for.

"You've come a long way since we first met, from the boy who didn't know how to live with being a ghoul to the man who can't go back. I wonder how much you've really changed? At first I'd thought you'd gone native, yet here you are with your best friend Hide. Guess the jokes on me then isn't it." You pulled back your hood, letting your shirt black hair be covered with snow. Your baby blue eyes looked at the one eyed ghoul, you always looked much younger with your gas mask on.

"I know what your doing, your going to the CCG aren't you? Going to hand over Hide to save his life, uncaring of what happens after, as long as he's alive." There was a small gust of wind, blowing your hair back a small bit. "Normally it would be commendable, giving your life to save your friend. Because you do realise there's no chance of walking out of there right?"

Kaneki was silent for a full minute, looking at the mask you held in your hands. You could tell he was reminiscing, as well he should be. "It doesn't matter what happens to me, just so long as my friends..."

"Classic Kaneki, never thinking of the consequences. Sure you could walk in there and lay down your life, wouldn't bother me anymore. But it would leave a bread trail to Antaiku, something I can't allow. Granddads gone, so's mom and miss Ryoko. Sure you managed to get to the others in time, but now your practically handing them over. The owl, blackdog, red ape and now one eye? How long before they realise that Touka is one of them, or Hinami?"

"(Y/N) I..."

"Don't call me that!" You shouted, anger rising to the surface. "I'm not your friend! I'm not (Y/N) who loved and trusted Kaneki as a brother! Just as your not Kaneki who once promised to stay beside me till the end! No. Now I'm just Scorpio and you are just One-Eye, we're just two ghouls. That's all we are, just too ghouls..." You threw his mask towards him, it landed by his feet. He looked down at it, then back at Hide. "I'm not letting you past One-Eye, and if you think you can somehow get around with Hide without getting you both killed your a bigger fool then I thought.

Kaneki looked you in the eye for what felt like an eternity, you couldn't help but feel guilty. Time was you'd have given your life for him, died for him. But that was before he joined Aogiri, before he turned his back on Anteiku, before he put your family at risk. He seemed to understand your position, since he turned and slowly placed Hide gently on the floor. He lifted his mask on slowly, guilt and regret heavy in both of you.

You watched as he released his kagunea, letting out his four tentacles. You responded by letting your scorpion tail emerge from your tail bone, it curved over your head reaching five feet tall, it's large bulb filled with poison.

There was a time when you could have killed him by accident you were so much stronger, but that time was long gone. You wouldn't let him get to CCG, nor could you let yourself die either. You had too much to lose...
