The Monday after the accident Marcus toke me to the hospital. Just to make sure I was ok.
We had sat in the waiting room for 4 hours. People stared and try to “discreetly” take pictures. Marcus chuckle next to me.
“what?”
“any other superstar will had use their influence to get in and out long time ago, but not you Danielle” he said turning to look at me “not you”
I could feel myself blushing.
“I may be at childhood star, but in this scenario I'm just like them, Marcus”
“I wish they knew that. one more picture and I will lose it”
“welcome to my world” I said with a smile. “you know you don’t have to stay. I can tell you whatever the doctor say” not that I meant it. I loved that he was caring for me, but at the same time I felt like he was doing it out of guilt. He leaned closer to me.
“if you are hoping to get rid of me Steel, you are out of luck” he said with a smile, I never wanted to kiss him so bad in my life. I lay back in the sofa.
“Danielle” said a nurse.
“thank you” I said as we move pass her. she only nodded and smile guiding us to one of the rooms.
“the doctor will be with you in a moment” she said before leaving me and Marcus in the small room.
“well I be dam” said the man as he walked into the room “ I thought they were pulling my hair, when they say I had no other than the beautiful young Danielle Steel in my office. I feel honor Ms. Steel” I turn to see Marcus face trying to hold my laugh, I almost lost it after looking at Marcus ‘is this guys serious’ expression.
“ok so what can I do for you?”
I turn to Marcus who explain the whole situation. After a few more pocks and the light been shove into my eyes. Wrote a few things down and ask the nurs to take me to get a CT Scan. As we move out the room I notice Marcus was still sitting
“come on” I said
“I will wait for you here”
“Marcus I'm doing this to give you peace of mind because truly I don’t care”
“can you give us a minute” he said to the nurse and pull me back into the room before closing the door and backing me up to it.
“I swear to god Danielle Steel you are gonna be the death of me. if I ever heard you saing something like that ever again”
“what? I don’t even understand why you care? If is for guilt, you had nothing to feel guilty about”
“for the love of go Danielle shut up” he said before touching his lips to mine. It was mean to do what it did shut me up.
“now go and get the ct scam and give me piece of mind” he said pushing a very surprise me out the door.
I was place on a cold metal bed and place into the tunel looking machine. The test came and go and I was still in shock. Then I was back into the room with the doctor on my heels.
“well Ms. Steel, everything seems good. This young man did a great job taking care of you.” he said looking at Marcus “if you could do such a great job, with not equipment, I will love to have you as an inter” he said to Marcus. “you have a bright future ahead of you”
“thank you doctor” I heard his voice behind me, and arm wrap around my waist and a kiss was press to my temple “right now all I care is that she is ok”
“young man she is right and rain, I'm just gonna prescribe some medication, but I will prefer for her to rest a few more days”
I turn to Marcus “I have a game tomorrow”
“no you don’t” Marcus said
“yes I do”
“Danielle” he said his tone low “do you want me to shut you up again?”
I wanted to say hell yeah instead I turn back to the doctor at stared at the floor, heat spread on my cheeks. Then the laugh of the doctor filled the room.
“ohh young love, always so refreshing”
I was waiting for Marcus to say something but neither of us did.
“ready to go home?” Marcus broke the silence. I nodded.
“can we stop at the school? If I'm not gonna play tomorrow I at least I should told the coach”
“no, you are going home to bed, and I will go and talk to the coach”
I open my mouth to say something
“please don’t fight me on this” he said as we made our way to the car. I didn’t say anything for the rest of the ride. I could feel Marcus glancing at me every now and then. i keep staring out the window. The true was that I couldn’t care any more about the volleyball game, it was that everything the doctor told Marcus.
The doctor was right Marcus had a bright future ahead of him, but me? I had nothing, I was a child star that now when to college to busy herself with something, and to be close to her only real friend.
True was other than Devon I had nothing. Well it was time to change that.
