It's been a few days since the highway clean up came across us. The men had radioed in medical services and we were all carted to Kyoto, which was still a two hour drive from where we'd crashed. Most of the cram school had been checked out by professionals and were patched up. Most of us only needed an IV drip, a warm place to sleep, and some food in our stomach.
However, some of us weren't so lucky. I'd smacked my head pretty hard on the concrete and they couldn't get me to wake up on site. With how damaged I already was, I heard that I'd died on the way to the hospital, which is pretty fucking terrifying if you ask me. Thankfully, they were able to restart my heart and keep it beating until we arrived. From then on, I was in the ICU with wires and tubes everywhere like some kind of robot.
I'd only woken up this morning, and boy, that was one hell of a headache. So many people were in and out of my room. There was a lot of jargon that I didn't understand as well, until it was thoroughly explained to me. I'd starved to the point that my body was done consuming fat and muscle, it'd started tearing apart my organs, which was why I'd been passing out so frequently. The scratches and the bite mark on my leg were infected; a staph infection they'd called it. It was still infected, but with the boatload of antibiotics they were pumping through my body, I was expected to heal quickly. The cut by my eye and the puncture from the stick were healing, for the most part, but they added to the mess that was my body. The rest of me had a scattering of bruises and scratches. My shoulder was pretty messed up and had required a professional to set it back in place.
One thing that I'd been extremely grateful for was the bathing I'd received. Not having dirt, blood, sweat, or any of that other stuff clinging to me was a blessing.
There was a knock on my door and I allowed whoever it was to come in. My brother poked his head in, surprised to see me awake, most likely. He pushed the door open and walked inside, he was clad in the usual white garments the hospital supplied. "You're still admitted here?" I asked, puzzled, I'd heard that the others had been discharged already.
"Stress and bacterial infections tend to fester after awhile. They're just making sure I'm completely healed before releasing me." He looked me over before sitting in a nearby chair, "so, have you heard everything?"
I shook my head, "I'm sure I missed some of it, like where are the others. I know they aren't here, but..."
He hummed, leaning forward and clasping his hands together, "Suguro-san's parents dropped by and took all of them to the inn. You're lucky you didn't have to endure that." He gave me a small smile and my eyes widened.
"That bad?" He nodded, "who was the worst?"
"I mean, Ryuji's father was distraught that we'd gone through such hardships, but his wife was an absolute mess. She hugged everyone, crying and kissing our foreheads like we were five." My face scrunched up and he chuckled, "and yes, she came in here and did the same for you."
"Oh," was all I said, slightly disturbed to he handled in such a way without knowing it. "Did they say anything about what's happened since we crashed?"
"Oh yes, a lot." He leaned back in his chair, his eyes tracing the ceiling. "They'd called the academy and then the police when we weren't there by nine the next morning. The fact that this was a business trip, and no one was answering their phones, was cause for alarm. They'd sent out search teams that afternoon, but they'd been searching the main highway." He scoffed, "no one even bothered to look over the files. They would've seen that the highway was closed for maintenance." He sighed, rubbing his hands together, "we did get a formal apology for that, so I guess I can't be too sour about it."
"So," I reached up and itched my chest. Not only did the scratches cause me discomfort, but they'd placed pads and wires around my upper torso. It was a heart monitor, and they were worried that I could have irreversible damage. At this point, I was just happy to be alive. "How did they find us? I mean, I know we weren't found by the search teams."
