Chapter 5
A/N: This book is rated R and will have adult content in chapters to come. I will not be saying when those parts will be up because it disrupts the flow of the book. I want it to be surprising. So if you are uncomfortable with sexual scenes then I’m sorry but this book may not be for you! Just thought I would throw that out here now because I am working on the other chapters. ~
It feels like everything is going in slow motion. Everyone moves out of my way while I run down the hallway. I mean why wouldn’t they when someone is yelling “MOVE!” every two seconds? My heart pounds against my chest. I get near room 205 C; you can already see nurses swarming the place.
“MOVE NOW!” I yell at everyone.
A path is automatically made for me; just as I get up to Mr. Stevenson I hear the heart monitor flat line. NO. I reach into the crash cart and pull out a shot. I grab the longest needle attachment and stab it into his chest. No response.
“I need defibrillator paddles now! Someone get another shot prepared!” I fume.
I gel the paddles up while a nurse cuts Mr. Stevenson’s shirt. I mark my spots on his chest with my eyes then say,
“Clear!” The electricity from the paddles causes his chest to rise and his back to arch.
Nothing…
“NO Thomas! You cannot leave yet! You hear me? I SAID YOU CAN’T LEAVE YET!” I say while administering another shot.
I look up and notice everyone is silent and staring at me. I wait a moment and continue.
“Clear!” I say charging the paddles again; ignoring their doubtful looks. His chest rises again.
Nothing… I stare at his body in front of me in disbelief. If today could have gotten any worse, I think it just happened. Tears pool my eyes, for Thomas, for me, for this f*cked up situation.
“Time of death…” I begin to say.
Beep, beep, beep… the monitor comes to life. The beat is so quiet and erratic.
“Lets move now! We are heading to the O.R!” I shout.
“Who is on your scrub team? I’ll page them to meet you up there.” A little blonde nurse says.
“Nurse Kingsly.” I say confidently. He no longer has a choice. I’m the best. He doesn’t have to be my friend to know what is better for his career.
“On it.” She nods and heads to her station.
After we unlock the wheels we race to the O.R. The prep-team gets him in their, undresses him and starts to cleanse his chest. I rush into the scrub room, throw my hair into a tight bun, scrub my hands and apply my gown and mask. I kick the door to the O.R open and slip my gloves on. I position myself on the patients left side ready to begin.
