Chapter 4: An Unexpected Announcement..

I was taking harsh breaths trying to regulate my breathing as i came near my house. I still couldn't believe something like that had happened. I was still feeling the aftershocks of the incident.

I felt as if i was walking in a typical fairy tale with the cliché ending you know? I slow down as i reached the entrance of my house and climbed the stairs slowly walking as if in a daze. My head feels as if someone has beaten it a with a baseball bat. I tried to calm myself down but my breathing was still ragged and my heart refused to stop pounding so hard. I pressed the doorbell waiting for someone to open the door. I stood there for about ten seconds and was about to ring the doorbell again when suddenly the door opened and i saw my mom gazing at me with concern.
"What is the matter Aura? Why are you huffing like that? "
I opened my mouth to tell her about the strange incident but then i felt that mom would be worried and as she hadn't been feeling well lately i didn't want to cause her anymore trouble.
" Nothing mom. I just raced Vicki." i lied.
"Oh! That's alright come in. I have made your favourite chocolate brownie." she said smiling.
I smiled at the thought of the delicious chocolate heaven. I love brownies more than anything.
I came into the house and went to my room to change. I pondered about today's happenings for a few minutes and then decided that i would talk to Vicki about it tomorrow. For now I'll just enjoy eating the brownie .

Next morning, i woke up feeling very tired as i didn't feel very well. I dressed ate breakfast and went to school with Vicki.

Fourth period had ended and it was lunch when suddenly the announcement speaker came alive.

"Good day students. There is an announcement that there will be a singing competition held today. You were informed late as it is an on the spot singing competition. This will take place after lunch. Thank you."

I was still feeling sick but tried to lighten up remembering the competition. I took a rasping breath and rubbed my aching temples trying to lessen my headache. It didn't make any difference and my head continued to hurt. I quickly ate my lunch and waited for the bell to ring.

I glanced at Vicki who was still eating her food as if it was her last meal on earth. A shrill sound rang in the surrounding and i jumped in surprise.
It was the bell. I grabbed Vicki's hand and led both of us to the auditorium where auditions for the competition were going to be held. We both reached the auditorium and took our place near the stage. The students were slowly trickling in and the auditorium got filled in. Just then the people who had come for the audition were asked to gather at the backstage. I quickly said goodbye to Vicki and as i took a few steps ahead i suddenly felt dizzy and my surroundings started to blur and i stumbled a bit.
"Aura!, cried Vicki, what is happening to you? " as she steadied me.
" Nothing don't worry I'm alright. I just stumbled a bit. "
" You sure? "
" Yes of course I'll be alright. "
" Okay. "she said apprehensively as she looked at me warily. I smiled weakly at her and went backstage.

And unsurprisingly i saw Rachel standing there. She turned around and saw me in the crowd. She glared daggers at me. Just then the announcer started calling names of the people giving the audition.

My name was called out in the last. As it was on the spot singing we were given a topic and according to that we had to sing. I went onto the stage and waited for the announcer Harry to say the topic.

Harry picked a chit from a bowl of chits and opened it slowly. "And you have to sing a song of a language other than english."

I sighed in relief. I knew many songs in Dutch and German. I decided that i would sing my favourite German song-Nacht by Anna Blue.

I took my place as usual on the piano seat and lightly ran my hands over the keys. I adjusted the mike to my height, took a deep breath and started singing.

I played on and before i knew, the song had ended and i had played the
last chord. I stood up shakily. While playing i hadn't felt that sick but now i was starting to feel dizzy again.

I glanced nervously at the audience. To my surprise most of them gave me a standing ovation and the others applauded theatrically. I looked at the judges and saw that each of them had given me a standing ovation. I smiled weakly at all of them before bowing and going backstage.

Soon the results were announced. I, Rachel and many others got selected for the main competition. We all had to go to the stage, say thanks to the judges and then go down. I thanked each of the judges. As i turned to go down the stage by stairs suddenly the whole world tilted and blackness overcame me.
