Adopted Assassin

Chapter 2

4 Years Later - Nora's POV

     It has been about 4 years since the day Mari adopted me. I've been training daily with Mari and Jenna. I haven't assisted on any field missions yet, but Mari said she would take me on one soon after my 14th birthday. My birthday is in a week, on December 2nd. There is snow everywhere, so all of my training has to be indoors for now.

     Mari is away on a job right now, but she promised she'll be back in time for my birthday. I hope she gets back soon. Jenna and I are assisting Mari with computer help from our tech room. It's one of my favorite things to do, because I can't go in to the field yet. I still do physical training everyday, even though Mari isn't here.

Mari's POV

     I'm away on a job in Arizona. It's going to take at least 4 more days. I hope I get back home before Nora's birthday. I have a surprise for her and she will really like it.

     Currently I'm following a drug dealer back to his supplier, so I can take down the whole business. Normally I don't deal with things like this, but a rich father paid me to destroy the organization responsible for giving his son drugs that ultimately killed him. He's heading to some parking garage under a corporate building near the center of Phoenix. (Ironic, I know). He drives his car up to the third level and parks. I follow him a safe distance and get out my guns and throwing knives. He gets out of his car and walks past an elevator and to a flight of stairs. He begins walking up then I follow him. He's walking too fast. Dang it I lost him. I press my ear com.

"Nora, Jenna, I need you guys to hack the video feed for this building and find him." I say quickly.

"Okay, we're in. Where exactly did you see him last?" Jenna responds second later.

"Stairwell in the parking lot part." I answer.

"Got him. 2 flights up and through the door to the right." Nora says triumphantly.

     I follow her instructions running with my werewolf speed. It looks abandoned here, but they're are a few cars in the parking area, so it can't be completely abandoned.

"Where to now?" I ask as soon s I turn to the right.

"Last door on the right." Jenna says.

Walking quickly there I say, "Okay. Is he still in the room?"

"Yeah, someone else is there as well." Nora says.

     I push on the door, it swings open. I quickly take in all of the things around me. There are 2 men, what looks like to be a meth lab on a conference table with chairs around it, and a case of money. I pull out my guns and shot each man. The one I was following in the shoulder and the other in the knee cap. Both men fall to the ground. I use my werewolf speed to tie each to a chair in the room. I begin to question them. 

"Where are you getting the drugs from?" I begin.

After no response I ask, "Who are you getting them from?" Still no response.

"Fine, have it your way." I say grabbing my knife from my shoe.

     I begin to torture the man from the office. He holds it together for a while, but eventually gives in when I threaten his life.

"Stop! Stop! Stop! I'll tell you, just stop!" He yells.

"Who supplies the drugs to you? How do they get them? Where do you pick them up?" I question in quick succession.

"It's all on a thumb drive. It is over on the table." He says defeated.

     I walk to the thumb drive and pick it up. I walk back over to them and put my knife.

"I will set you free," I tell them pulling out my gun, "From yourselves." And I shoot them both in the head, execution style.

     I walk back to my car and grab my spray paint and go back to the scene. I paint my signature black phoenix. Once  I'm done I walk to my car and grab my laptop. I plug the thumb drive in and open it. Dang. It's encrypted.

Pressing my com I say, "Jenna, Nora, I have a treat for you. An encrypted thumb drive. I'm sending you the files now." 

     I email them the information from the drive and shut down my computer. I start my car and drive back to my current hotel trusting Jenna and Nora to decrypt the files. I park my car and walk into my bottom floor room. I change into civilian clothing and put away my uniform. I get back into my car and drive to a restaurant. I'm eating my lunch when my phone rings, it's Nora. I pick up my phone and she says they decrypted the files and sent me them. I thank them and hang up the phone. I wave a waitress over and ask for my bill. She brings it over and I pay. I tip her generously and walk out. I open the files on my computer as soon as I reach my car. Looks like I'm going to the border. I drive back to the hotel and grab my stuff. I quickly turn in my room key, pack my stuff into my car, and drive to the border. By the time i get there it is the next day. I find a motel a few miles from the address in the files. I pay for a room and put all of my things in it. The shipment isn't supposed to come in for 2 days, so I spend the next 2 days doing research and sleeping. The next morning I wake up before the sun rises. I change into my gear and place all of my weapons I carry with my in their rightful places. I get into my car and drive to the address. I park about 3 blocks away from the actual address in the warehouse district. I get out and use my werewolf speed to run to the exact address. I quickly find a place to stake out the building and hide there. I wait and watch for almost 4 hours before I see a semi-truck pull into the warehouse. They park and 2 men get out of the truck. One man pulls out a cell phone and calls someone. Less than 30 minutes later 3 SUVs pull up to the warehouse. Parking, 3 men get out of each car. They open the back of the semi and begin to unload it. They set aside the first few pallets, but then open the rest of the pallets. They take out the top few boxes and put them with the unopened pallet. They begin pulling out bags of white powder. They load them into the backs of the SUVs. By the time they finish I have seen enough and decide it's time to interrogate them. I walk into the warehouse with my guns. I sneak up on one man and hold the gun to his head and ask who their leader is. He points to a man on the far side of the room. I shoot him. I use my speed to shoot and kill 5 more men before the others can even react. Only 2 men have guns on them, one of them being the leader. I shoot the men without guns in the heads first. Only 2 are left, so I shoot them both in the legs and they fall. I walk to the 2 men and  shoot the man who wasn't the leader in the head. I stand next to the leader shoot him in the head. I grab his phone and clone it. I send the information back to Jenna and Nora for them to sort through. I paint my signature black phoenix on the wall above the dead leader and walk away leaving the drugs behind for the authorities to find. I pull into a gas station and use the pay phone to call the police and leave an anonymous tip on the drug dealers. It is now their problem to deal with.

     I have 3 days left to get back home after today, but I won't be driving tonight I need to sleep first. I drive back to my motel room and fall asleep.

     The next morning I give back my room key and load my car again. It will take at least 2 days to drive home at this time of year. I begin driving and stop for food every once and a while. I end up finding a motel to sleep in when I reach about half way through my trip. I rent a room for the night and go to sleep.

     I wake up in the morning and get some food. Then I begin to drive again. I stop for lunch at a mall and decide to buy a few more gifts for Nora's birthday. I get back to Tennessee at almost 11 pm. The roads are too icy to drive on at night so I stop at a hotel and stay the night there.

    The next morning I wake up and begin to drive up the mountain. I get home around noon. I sneak into the house and up to the tech room. I walk up behind Nora and scream happy birthday in her ear. Jenna calls out of her chair and Nora turns around to hit the person behind her until she realizes it's me. She launches herself at me and hugs me. I got home the day before her birthday. We spend the day watching movies and lazing around. I can't wait until tomorrow to see how she reacts to her gifts.
