"Edd... I think we should see other people..."

The words were a punch in the face. Edd looked at Tord, tears forming in his eyes. "What do you mean?!" he cried out, his heart hurting.

Tord turned away, his back to Edd. "I don't want to date you anymore..." he said, emotionless. Edd stifled a gasp, tears streaming down his face.

"But... Tord... we're meant to be!" he choked out, the words caught in his throat. Tord was silent, putting his hands into his pockets.

"I thought so too... I'm sorry, Edd... but.... I just don't love you anymore. The spark is gone..." he said, without emotion. Edd stumbled.

He wasn't truly hearing  his soul mate breaking up with him, was he? There was no way. Tord had promised to love him forever.

"No, it isn't!" Edd pretty much yelled, his voice breaking. He couldn't take it. Tord said nothing, walking away.

"Goodbye, ex-boyfriend..." he said softly.

Edd fell to the ground, crying. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be real... Tord wouldn't break his promise...

Edd tried to stand. Tord was already gone...

Edd, not knowing what else to do, flopped onto the ground.

He started to bawl his eyes out.

Tears streamed down his face. "I still love you..." he choked out, his voice sounding distant to himself.

~~~~~
Edd sat bolt upright. Breathing heavily, he looked around. He was back in his room, in his own bed. He closed his eyes. It was only a dream?, he thought to himself. Sighing in relief, he lay back down, resting his head on his pillow.
He knew he should feel... more relieved about Tord "breaking up" being a dream, but he wasn't. It had felt too vivid... too real. He could swear he'd really felt the tears streaming down his cheeks.
Edd sat up again. He swung his feet over the side of his bed and slid onto the floor. Ringo lifted his head in confusion. Edd sighed. Ringo leaped off the bed and wrapped himself around his owner's legs, sensing sadness.
Edd knelt down and petted Ringo, stroking the cat along his spine. Ringo let out a soft purr. Edd cracked a small smile. It was as if his cat knew him.
Opening the door to his room, he stepped out into the hallway, the rug feeling soft beneath his feet. Ringo cautiously followed. Edd walked down the hall, pausing outside the door he knew too well.
It wasn't much of a door. It was simple, chestnut brown. It also had a small, red piece of paper on it, reading "TORD" in Sharpie. Edd gulped and pushed open the door, softly.
Tord looked up, half asleep. The light shone directly on him, laying in bed with his sheets tangled around him.
"Wha..? Whosedare...?" he mumbled, sleepily. Edd walked in, settling down on Tord's bed.
Tord sat up, his eyes adjusting to the dark. "Edd?" he asked, rubbing his eye with one hand. Edd nodded. Tord forced himself to sit up. "What is it?" he asked his boyfriend. Edd sniffled.
Tord looked concerned, but the darkness hid his face from Edd. Edd sniffled, and started to tear up.
"Well... I had this nightmare... you broke up with me... and..." Edd said, trailing off. Tord felt horrified, almost. Edd began to describe the nightmare. Ringo pushed open the door and jumped onto the bed, curling up between the lovers.
Edd finished, crying. Tord was frozen in place, his emotions trying to drown him.
He put his arms around Edd, hugging him tightly. "Edd..." he whispered. Edd said nothing, his only response being a soft sobbing. Tord rubbed his lover's back, listening to his breathing.
"It's okay, I still love you..." he said, hugging Edd tighter, starting to tear up. Edd sat there.
All his life, Edd had been confused about who he loved. He'd never had crushes on girls, only boys. He'd been scared something was wrong with him. Now, that he was an adult, he felt different.
He'd found someone who loved him. For himself. Not for his money, not for his looks, no. For his personality. For who he truely was. Edd felt... blessed now that someone actually loved him.
Someone to look after him, and to hold him close. Someone... who wouldn't leave him. Someone who would protect him, and cheer him up when he was sad.
Someone to call him their own.
Someone for him to call... his lover.
He melted in Tord's arms. Letting himself be hugged, he buried his face into Tord's shirt, tears rolling down his cheeks. He wrapped his arms around Tord's torso.
Tord just let Edd hug him.
The two stayed in their embrace for the rest of the night.
The next morning, Tom pushed open the door to find them still hugging, but asleep.
Tom cracked a small smile.
He had to admit, they were cute together. His best friend and his "frienemy". He'd never suspected they'd had feelings for each other.
But, even then, they made a great couple.
Tom walked away, letting the lovers sleep.
