On this day last year, the deadliest mass shooting occurred at a gay nightclub named Pulse in the city of Orlando, Florida. 49 people were mercilessly killed as they were only having what was the best time of their young lives. The shootings shook Orlando, as well as the LGBT, Hispanic, and Muslim communities there. In the wake of those attacks, we celebrated those innocent lives lost in this tragic event, and also other parts of the city I call home that make us stand out from others across the globe. We're a community built on diversity, acceptance, and bonding, across different religions, cultures, and other interests. This may have been only a road block for us, for LGBT people, for Muslims, for Hispanics, for Orlando - but we have moved forward while making sure to honor the memories made at that place known as a safe haven for people who want to identify themselves without any persecution whatsoever.
One year later, the club may not be in the same state it was before the shootings, but man, Orlando is STILL the place for that. We may have learned a few lessons here and there, but we're still going. Still moving. And STILL making this a better place to live in.
